COUNCIL MINUTES
A Special meeting of Bowmanville Town Council convened at 4:15 p.m.
on Tuesday, July 20, 1965 in the Auditorium, Town Hall with His
Worship Mayor Ivan M. Hobbs in the Chair. All members present.
I C.P.R. Bridge - Elgin Street:
"We are presently investigating the matter of replacing bridge
recently destroyed at Elgin Street, and before proceeding further
with our plans I would appreciate your advising if the Town of
Bowmanville have any long range plans regarding the overhead
bridges at Prospect Street and Elgin Street, and whether or not
the Town would consider eliminating either one or other of the
bridges if consideration were given to installing a p~rmanent
type structure.
I would appreciate your views on the subject and would add that,
should the Town consider reconstruction and improvement of the
Elgin Street or Prospect Street overheads, the cost of the work
would be borne partly by the Board of Transport Grade Crossing
Fund anQ a portion would also be paid by the Railway Company.
Actual cost to the Town for any proposed structure would, of
course, have to be developed and upon receipt of your views on
this matter we will progress the matter further."
Moved by Con. Hooper, seconded by Reeve Little.
THAT the Clerk write the C.P.R. stating the Town have no long
range plans regarding the overhead bridges at Prospect Street
and Elgin Street and that the C.P.R. proceed with a new bridge
at Elgin Street as soon as possible.
