HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/20/1965 e e . . ~. ~ . ~ Page 16 COUNCIL MINUTES A Special meeting of Bowmanville Town Council convened at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 1965 in the Auditorium, Town Hall with His Worship Mayor Ivan M. Hobbs in the Chair. All members present. I C.P.R. Bridge - Elgin Street: "We are presently investigating the matter of replacing bridge recently destroyed at Elgin Street, and before proceeding further with our plans I would appreciate your advising if the Town of Bowmanville have any long range plans regarding the overhead bridges at Prospect Street and Elgin Street, and whether or not the Town would consider eliminating either one or other of the bridges if consideration were given to installing a p~rmanent type structure. I would appreciate your views on the subject and would add that, should the Town consider reconstruction and improvement of the Elgin Street or Prospect Street overheads, the cost of the work would be borne partly by the Board of Transport Grade Crossing Fund anQ a portion would also be paid by the Railway Company. Actual cost to the Town for any proposed structure would, of course, have to be developed and upon receipt of your views on this matter we will progress the matter further." Moved by Con. Hooper, seconded by Reeve Little. THAT the Clerk write the C.P.R. stating the Town have no long range plans regarding the overhead bridges at Prospect Street and Elgin Street and that the C.P.R. proceed with a new bridge at Elgin Street as soon as possible. "CARRIED" II Centennial Committee Report: "Meeting of '7:30 p.m. Chant, and the Centennial Committee Present were Chairman R. Con. Hughes. held on July 14th, 1965 at Stevens, Mayor Hobbs, Con. 1. Councillor Hughes offered to contact Memorial Park Association re use of Park for Confederation Caravan. He will report re their approval at the next meeting. 2. Rundle. THAT Council concur with the reco~~endations of the Centennial Committee. "CARRIED" III Supplementary Roads & Streets Expenditure By-law: Moved by Reeve Little, seconded by Con. Hooper. THAT leave be granted to introduce a Supplementary By-law to provide for the 1965 Expenditures on Roads & Streets. "CARRIED" Moved by Con. Hooper, seconded by Reeve Little. THAT the By-law be read a first time, referred to Council in Committee of the "hole and read a second time, Mayor in the Chair. "CARRIED" Moved by Con. Fice, seconded by Con. Prout. THAT we rise and report successful second reading of the By-law in Committee of the whole. "CARRIED" Moved by Con. Chant, seconded by Con. Prout. THAT the report of Council in Committee of the Whole on the By- law be received and adopted, the same be now read a third time, engrossed, signed by the Mayor and Clerk, sealed and numbered as follov.rs: "A Supplementary By-law to provide for the 1965 Expenditures on Roads and Streets."
