THAT Report PD -60 -88 be received for information. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: Staff have recently been advised of proposed changes to the GO Transit Bus Service, presently operating within the Town of Newcastle, as a result of the impending opening of the Whitby GO Rail extension. In that regard, Staff note that the present service extends from Bowmanville to the Oshawa Downtown Bus Station and operates every 60 minutes. This service would remain unchanged during offpeak hours, however, during the peak period, the GO Transit is proposing that the 60 minute service be reduced to 40 minutes with an extension to the Whitby GO Bus and Rail Station and that a further service be added, being a direct 40 minute service between Bowmanville and the Whitby Station. This direct or express service would follow Liberty Street South to Baseline, west on Baseline Road to Waverly Road, and then from Waverly Road, west on the 401 to the Whitby Station. ...2 3 REPORT 00.: PD-60-88 PAGE 2 _______________________________________________________________________________ If Council so desire, GO Transit Staff are available to attend a Committee Meeting to further explain the proposed changes.
