Director, Department of Community Services DATE: June 30th, 1980 SUBJECT: Erosion Control - Orono Park Town of Newcastle With Reference to the attached letter from the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority. Due to the rain storm in Parch, considerable damage was done to the hanks of the creek and the area surroundinJ; the creek in Orono Park. Ibis Deparriment did its utmost to vcti ry the situation. First we had to drain tho water out or the hole the storm left and secondly we dumped some gravel , rocks etc. to help rill the space. Mr. ,Jack Dunham, Director of Public Works investigated the site and agreed with me that we reel"ired heavy Fill . There was to he a worksproject corning in the Orono Area and they could dump fill from that project into Orono Park. Wo did not have the necessary rands in our budget, i to buy till to correct this problem, One of our main problems in Orono fart is the erosion along the creek banks. I met with James. A. Powat , Resources 15naner of Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority regarrdinh this problem. '-.'-,'anning Director Department of Community Services Town of Newcastle 40 Temperance Street BOHIANVILLE, Ontario LIC 3A6 Dear Sir: Re : Erosion Control, centennial Park , Orono, Town of Newcastle , Your File No: 105-B A portion of the above erosion control project in Centennial Park, Orono, was carried out by the Authority staff with the assistance of the Towns staff and backhoe . Larly freeze up this year prevented the completion of the project. All the materials for the project have been purchased. Approximately four to five tons of gabion stone are still piled on site . We will arrange for the Authority staff to complete the project first thing next Spring. There has been some damage to the lawn adjacent to the work site which will be repaired upon completion of the project next Spring. As mentioned, all the materials for the project have been purchased. An invoice is enclosed since we understand that the cost of the project has been budgeted this year (1980 ) .
