In all of Ward #1's area, it is anticipated that there will be twelve (12) soccer teams and twenty-seven (27) ball teams. This could change when registration has been held. Continued. . .2 Page 2. WARD #2 Soccer Ball Park Field Diamonds Memorial Park - 2 permitted by Community Services Soper Creek Park - 1 permitted by Community Services Vincent Massey School - 1 permitted by Community Services Central Public School - 1 permitted by Community Services Lord .Elgin Park - 2 permitted by Community Services Ontario Street School 1 1 permitted by Community Services Waverley Road Park 1 1 permitted by Community Services Martin Road Park - 1 permitted by Community Services Bowmanville High School 1 - permitted by Community Services Bowmanville Sr. Public 1 - permitted by Community Services Durham Christian School 1 - permitted by Community Services Knox Christian School 1 - permitted by Community Services 12 parks 6 10 The soccer field at Ontario Street School is too small to use for games -but is suitable for practices. In Bowmanville there are five (5) Men's Softball teams which use Memorial Park South diamond, one (1) Senior Baseball team which used Soper Creek Park and there is two (2) teen age ball teams which use Soper Creek as well, and the Memorial Park North diamond used by the Tyke and Pee Wee All Star Baseball teams. The Recreation House League is anticipating twelve (12) teams this season for Softball and Baseball and ten (10) soccer teams. There is one All Star Lobb Ball team which uses the Memorial Park South diamond on Sundays. This year there are two (2) new leagues which are, a four (4) team league of the Fire Department and a six (6) team league for the Canadian Forresters which will play on Sunday afternoons. The Bowmanville Hospital also has a four (4) team league. The Waverley Road Association operates a Childrens Softball League and operates at Waverley Road Park with approximately six (6) teams. There are two (2) groups of families which use the park at Memorial and Soper Creek for family outings on a weekly schedule. Conti.nued. . .3 Page 3. Ward #2 Continued. . I have not mentioned the Men's and Ladies Lobb Ball teams but will later in this report. There are approximatly ten (10) Recreation Soccer teams and six (G) All Star Soccer teams in Bowmanville and these teams play on five (5) pitches which leaves very little practice time. There are forty-six teams not counting the Men's or Ladies Lobb Ball teams playing games each week. Most of these teams do not practice during the week because there are no diamonds available. WARD #3 Soccer Ball Parks Field Diamonds Newcastle Memorial Park - 1 permitted by Community Services Newcastle Public School 1 l perritted by Community Services Lockhart Public School - 2 permitted by Community Services Newtonville Public School 1 1 permitted by Community Services Kendal-Jackson Park - 1 permitted by Kendal Athletic Assoc. Kendal Public School - 1 permitted by Kendal Athletic Assoc. Orono Park - 2 permitted by Community Services Orono Fair Grounds - 1 permitted by Community Services Orono Public School 1 1 permitted by Community Services Brownsdale - 1 permitted by Brownsdale Community Centre 10 parks 3 12 In the Village of Newcastle they intend to have two soccer teams and four (4) ball teams along with a Senior Baseball team. The Brownsdale Community Centre group will likely field two (2) ball teams. The Village of Newtonville has hopes of fielding two (2) Girls Softball teams. The residents around Lockhart have hopes of forming, a boys team. Continued. . .4 n, Ward #3 Continued. . Page 4. The Village of Kendal will have a Lobb Ball team, Men's Senior Baseball team and a Midget Baseball team. Orono is expected to field nine (9) teams for Softball and Baseball with five (5) soccer teams. There again, it will not be finalized until their registrations are over. Lobb Ball Leagues This season the Men's Lobb Ball League will have twenty (20) teams and the Ladies League will have ten (10) teams. Both these leagues play their games on parks in Bowmanville, Newcastle, Ne►%rtonville, Lockhart School, Orono Park and Orono Fair Grounds. In the Town of Newcastle we have access to thirty-seven (37) diamonds and seventeen (17) soccer fields. Of all these diamonds, I would say that there are only fifteen (15) which could be considered as first rate diamonds. The remainder would be second rate and in some cases suitable for only children. In the coning season it is expected we will have to find diamonds for one-hundred and twenty-four (124) baseball and softball teams and thirty-five (35) soccer teams. With this number of teams, there is very little practice fields available for any teams. Respectfully submitted, G. A. Kennett, Program Director Department of Community Services GAK/sd
