THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON
BY-LAW 2003-179
Being a by-law respecting the annual allowances
paid to the Mayor and Members of Council
WHEREAS at a meeting held on February 11, 2002, Council
passed By-law 2002-017 effecting certain adjustments to the
remuneration and travel allowance for members of Council;
AND WHEREAS Section 283(7) of The Municipal Act, 2001
requires that the council shall review its by-law at least
once during the three-year period corresponding to the term
of office of its members after a regular election:
AND WHEREAS at is public meeting on December 1, 2003
Council reviewed By-law 2002-017 and decided that no change
should be made in its substantial provisions:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED:
1. THAT the rate of remuneration for members of Council
be approved at the following rates:
Commencing
January 1, 2004
Mayor
Councillor
$54,640
$21,860
2. THAT travel allowance for members of Council be
approved at the following rates:
Commencing
January 1, 2004
Mayor
Councillor
$6,556
$2,623
3. THAT the travel allowance for those members of Council
serving as Deputy Mayor be reimbursed $50.00 per
month.
4. THAT future adjustments to remunerations and travel
allowances be set in accordance with future
settlements approved for the employees of the Canadian
Union of Public Employees Local 74.

5. THAT, should The Municipal Act be amended or should it
be repealed and replaced with provisions that in
effect prohibit an income tax free portion of such
annual allowance to be paid by the Municipality, the
Treasurer shall make appropriate adjustments as to
maintain the same net compensation level payable to
the Mayor and Members of Council.

2003
By-law read a third time and finally passed this 1st day of
December 2003.
