REPORT #: PD-31-86 FILE #: SUBJECT: TOWN OF NEWCASTLE FLAG RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended to Council the following: I. THAT Report PD-31-86 be received; and 2. THAT an additional expenditure of Two Hundred and Sixty-five Dollars ($265.00) be authorized for production of a flag prototype and the monies be drawn from the Receptions and Tributes Account 7007-235-X-5. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: At the Council meeting of November 25, 1985, Council approved Resolution #C-625-85 author- izing the expenditure, of up to Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) , for production of a flag prototype. Following therefrom, Staff requested a number of firms to quote on production of a single prototype flag. Two of the quotes received were less than the Five Hundred Dollar ($500.00) allocation and a third quote was received for an amount of Five Hundred , and Fifty Dollars ($550.00) . All of these quotes were for the same basic flag. However, one firm, Dominion Regalia, provided an additional quote and photographs with respect to . . .2 v REPORT NO. : PD-31-86 Page 2 a superior quality prototype which, upon completion, would be suitable for display in the Town' s Council Chambers, but not appropriate for outdoor display. The production method involves sewing, embroidering, and appliques on a stronger and more durable material . Staff are of the opinion that this would be the best method of proceeding with production of a single flag and would, therefore, recommend that an additional expenditure be authorized to cover cost of the flag as well as an expenditure for a complete floor unit to mount the flag in the Council Chamber consisting of a wooden pole with brass maple leaf top and flag cord and tassels. Staff note that delivery of the flag would be from four (4) to six (6) weeks following receipt of our order. 1)A spectfu fitted, T.T. Edwards, M.C. I .P. Director of Planning TTE*j i p
