1 LLANb INC ADVISORY COMMITTEE Report No,11
April 89 1974,
Public Notice o C;on, ittee_Io.- ii,g,s
It has come to my attentio. th .-t so,,lewhat inadequate notice is presently
being given to applicants and others when applications are being considered
by the Planning Advisory Co,ni ii (,tee o jit the trioment the only way in which
applicants can find out whether or not their application is on the agenda
far a committee meetin- is by teiephoning «e one or two days before each
meeting until their application comes up. There is presently no procedure
Ior notifying nearby property owners or other potential opponents even
if the existence of ,n application let alone of the date on which the
application will to considered. The stain problem which has prevented us
from giving public notice of applications is that the local press in this
municipality consists of weekly papers only and it is not possible to
publish a notice in the few days between the drawing up of the agenda
and the holding of the meeting, To resolve this problem I recolniaend that
the following procedure be instituted:
1, After each Council m..,eting at which applications for Official Plan
Al- Zendmentsy Zoning Fay -law hriendnents or approval of Subdivisions are
referred to the Planning Advisory Corirlittee9 the Secretary of the
Committee will publish a notice in the Bownianv ille 9 Newcastle and
Orono newspapers describing tl,e location and nature of each
application and inviting interested parties to contract hiri.
2 When the Agenda for ea.cii Cooimittee Meeting has been 1rawn up the
Secretary will notify in writing or by telephone each applicant
whose application is on the agenda and all other interested parties
who have co, -itacted him.
Respectfully submitted,
George 1'. I-Iowden9
Planning Director,
