Members should please make reference to my report tabled from the
previous meeting on this proposal. I have been informed by Regional
Planning staff that they arc presently working on a policy for
hamlets throughout the Region. This will presumably spell out Regional
planning, servicing and general development policies for all of the
small communities throughout the Region. This policy is going to be
discussed with the local municipalities before going to Regional
Council. I recommend that we do not make any comments to the Ministry
of Housing on development in our hamlets until we have had an oppor-
tunity to see and discuss this Regional policy. At the same time we
should urge Regional Council to give high priority to this policy
since it is a vital aspect of our forthcoming district plan, and
since a number of proposals in the Town of Newcastle are awaiting resol-
ution of this issue.
