MEETING: General Purpose and Administration Committee
DATE: Tuesday, May 22, 1990
REPORT #: PD-186 -90 FILE #:
SECT: BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT MONTHLY REPORT
FOR APRIL 1990
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD-186 -90 be received; and
REPORT:
1. 1 The attached chart indicates statistical information pertaining to
By-law Enforcement activities for the month of April and is
provided herein for the information of Committee and Council.
1.2 In addition to the statistical report staff would like to highlight
the following matters for Committee information.
1 . 3 With respect to animals running at large in Burketon Station, the
Director has written to every home owner in Burketon Station
requesting their co-operation to keep their dogs on leash within
private properties . Animal Control Officers have been patrolling
the area on a regular basis including Friday evening and Saturday.
Once the additional vehicle is in place staff will be stepping up
on patrols for other outlying communities as well.

1. 4 There has been a significant increase in violation of the Property
Standards By-law, including illegal dumping on private properties.
Staff is addressing these problems as expeditiously as possible.
1.5 The appearance of the industrial parks has been an ongoing concern
and it is imperative that the owners of these industrial operations
upkeep their properties so that the Town can project a more
positive image to businesses seeking to locate in this Town. To
this end the By-law Enforcement staff will be visiting the
industrial parks and seek the co-operation of the industries .
1. 6 The Town's Property Standards By-law is outdated and is currently
being revised. Once we have the input from the Town's solicitor
we will be bringing forth an amending by-law for Council's
consideration.
1. 7 There has been a proliferation of signs erected on Town road
allowance, this is particularly evident during weekends . At
present the limitation of staff resources has made it rather
difficult to carry out By-law Enforcement on weekends .
Notwithstanding, staff have undertaken all necessary actions to
have the illegal signs removed including removal of signs located
on Town's road allowance by Public Works staff.
Respectfully submitted Recommended for presentation
to the Committee
