THAT Report PD- 46 -90 be received for information. 1. BACKGROUND: 1. 1 With respect to the Building Permit Activity for the month of December, 1989 Staff wish to highlight the following statistics for the information of Committee and Council . Highlight of 1989 2 . 1 Total value of construction in 1989 amounts to 225 million which is another record breaking year for the Town. Compared to the 162 million construction value in 1988, the 225 million value in 1989 represents a 39% increase. 2 .2 The most noticeable increase in value in construction is in the industrial section where the 34 .2 million construction value represents over 500% increase from the 5. 6 million value in 1988 . 2 . 3 With respect to permits issued for new residential dwellings, a total of 1,359 permits were issued which is slightly below the 1,582 dwelling unit starts in 1988 . 2 .4 The geographical location of the new dwelling unit starts are broken down as follows: Courtice 697 units Newcastle Village 262 units Bowmanville 181 units Hamlets 51 units Rural Areas 168 units 2 . 5 Details of permit activities and historical comparisons are provided in the attached tables.
