Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD-142-95 be received for information.
1. BACKGROUND
1.1 In June 1992, Staff were given direction to review the existing Sign By-law 76-25.
Due to Staff's workload and desire in completing the Official Plan, review of the
Sign By-law was temporarily put on hold. Staff have now completed our review
of the Sign By-law and are prepared to bring forth a report for consideration by
Council.
2 NOTICE
2.1 The Municipal Act provides the legislation through which Municipalities can
regulate signs. It also regulates how notice is to be given when passing sign by-
laws The Municipal Act requires that one (1) notice be placed in local
newspapers at least fourteen (14) days prior to Council's consideration of passing
a new sign by-law. As such, Staff will be placing a Public Notice in the local
papers in the early part of January, 1996.

2.2 The new by-law is being drafted and will be available for public enquiry as soon
as the public notice is placed in the newspaper. A full report on the subject
matter will be placed in the GPA agenda for consideration.
