HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-05-08 Minutes BOARD OF MANAGEMENT BOWMANVILLE -BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p. m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in Committee Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library. Present: Gilpin, Shaima Rezazada (Curves Fitness Centre) Members: Lucas, Hooper, Barry, Seaton, Mulder, Holmes Absent: Johnston The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized Shaima Rezazada from Curves Fitness Centre as a delegation. Rezazada said that she was present at the meeting to introduce herself as the new owner of Curves Fitness Centre. She went on to say that she had a background in website design and would be happy to help in this regard at no charge. The Chairman asked if she would be interested in joining the Board as the Director responsible for the website. She agreed. Moved by Seaton, seconded by Holmes, THAT Rezazada be appointed to the Board of Management as Director of the website. "CARRIED" Moved by Hooper, seconded by Barrie, THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated. "CARRIED" Correspondence was received from the Family Safety Day Committee. Page 2 Moved by Holmes, seconded by Barrie, THAT the correspondence be received and filed. "CARRIED" The Treasurer presented his report as follows: Current Account $ 73,151.08 GIC #1 1005000.00 GIC #2 53,140.91 Total $112,291.99 Moved by Hooper, seconded by Barrie, THAT the'treasurer's Report be adopted as presented. "CARRIED" Reports: Council Liaison: Hooper reported that representatives from the Board of Trade from Tillsonburg and the Board of Trade from Bowmanville each shopped the other's downtown, and Bowmanville came off the better of the two. The people from Tillsonburg thought that Bowmanville's downtown was great. Events: Mulder reported that the Maple Festival was a success with a huge crowd all day and more than double the number of vendors. Membership Relations: No report. 5treetscape: Lucas reported that June Binnington has begun cleaning in the Downtown. Communications: No report. Publications: No report. Page 3 Board of Trade: Barry reported that the Board of Trade will be moving its office to the Balmoral Hotel building. Website: No report. Under "BUSINESS ARISING" from the previous meeting, Lucas stated that three designs for a new logo for the Apple Festival and Craft Sale will be presented at the June meeting. Under "NEW BUSINESS", Seaton reported that the Tourism Board is seeking volunteers to help at the Boots and Hearts Festival at Mosport on August 10, 11 and 12. The volunteers, working out of four tent locations, will assist visitors find what they need on-site and off site. Thirty to 50 individuals are needed to work at least one (1) six-hour shift. The pay is one free ticket to the Festival. Applications are available from the Office of Clarington Communications and Tourism, Municipality of Clarington, 905- 623-3379, Extension 2214. They must be completed in full and returned to the Communications and Tourism Office by FRIDAY, MAY 25, 2012. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. There is a mandatory training session on June 2--time and place to be announced. Volunteers must be members of the business owners' family or vouched for by them. Moved by Holmes, seconded by Barrie, THAT the Meeting be adjourned. "CARRIED" The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in Committee Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library at 6:30 p. m.
