BOARD OF MANAGEMENT
BOWMANVILLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA

Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p. m.
on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in Committee Room 1-C in the
Bowmanville Library.
Present: Gilpin, (Barbara) Patterson, (Rick) Patterson, (Sheila)Hall,
(John) Wileboer, (Lori)Allin
Members: Lucas, Hooper, Holmes, Rezazada, Mulder, Seaton, Barry
Absent: Johnston
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized that
there were no delegations present.
Moved by Hooper, seconded by Mulder,
THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated.

Correspondence was received from CFIB.ca, RBC Royal Bank, The Visual
Arts Centre, Jennifer Kerswill, Mark Sullivan, Downtown Oshawa BIA, and
Municipality of Clarington,
Moved by Seaton, seconded by Holmes,
THAT the correspondence be received and filed. "CARRIED"

The Treasurer presented his report as follows:
Current Account $ 7,380.60
GIC #1- 60,449.86
GIC #2 5,000.00
Total $72,830.46
J Next Gilpin circulated a copy of the Schedule of Remuneration 2012 for the
Board's information and review. There were no questions.
Moved by Holmes, seconded by Hooper,
THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented. "CARRIED"
Reports:

Council Liaison: Hooper reported that he had received notice from the
CFIB that they were, again, hosting "Small Business Saturday" on Saturday,
October 20, 2012.
Events: Mulder stated that the committee was ready for the Apple Festival
and Craft Sale scheduled for Saturday,.October 13.
Membership Relations: Barry reported that floral tributes have been sent to
the following new businesses: Clarington Board of Trade, GIG'S Music,
Coffee and Cake, and the Nails Spa.
Streetscape: Gilpin reported that there was only enough money in the
budget for watering the plants in the Downtown until Friday, September 14,
and that the funding for waste management would probably run out by the
middle of October. He recommended that the Board approve an additional
$2,000--$700 for watering and $1,300 for the extension of the waste
control. June Binnington's hours have reduced to three days a week.

Moved by Mulder, seconded by Rezazada
THAT $700 be approved for the continued watering of the plants in the
Downtown.

Communications: Holmes reported that, based on information she had
received from members at large concerning the Board's decision to NOT
CLOSE King Street on the evening of the Christmas Moonlight Magic
event, she decided, as Chairman of Communications, to survey the
merchants on this matter. She said that the survey results showed that 53 of
the 56 members surveyed wanted the street CLOSED for the event, and
some were even prepared to attend the next monthly Board meeting to voice
their objections to the street closing not happening.
Moved by Holmes, seconded by Mulder,
THAT Downtown Bowmanville be CLOSED to vehicle traffic, fiom 5:30
p. m. until 11 p. m. for the Annual Christmas Moonlight Magic event, on
Friday, December 7, 2012.

Publications: No report.
Board of Trade: Barry introduced Sheila Hall, Manager of the Clarington
Board of Trade, who expressed her pleasure at having the Board of Trade
office in Historic Downtown Bowmanville. She went on to outline the
various roles of the Board which are liaison, growth and education, to work
to attract new businesses to Clarington, to co-operate with Regional
initiatives and to improve existing businesses in the Municipality.
Website: Rezazada reported that she had met with Angela Becz who told
her that she would do whatever we needed done, including giving her the
website password so that she could put business coupons on
v,r"ry,,.bowmanville.com. However, Rezazada said that when she attempted
to put a coupon on for' her own business, she was unsuccessful. In
conclusion, she.said she and Becz will work together to clean the website.

Under `BUSINESS ARISING" from the previous meeting, Hooper reported
that Todd Tremeer is presently working to restore the three identified murals
in the Downtown.
Patterson reported that he and Hooper had presented a plaque to Dennis
Sullivan of Sully's Barber Shop to recognize his 50 years of barbering in
Downtown Bowmanville.
Under "NEW BUSINESS", Holmes reported on correspondence she had
had with Archibal's Orchards concerning the new fee being charged to
growers to attend the annual Apple Festival. She proposed that an
adjustment be made to the fee, as a goodwill gesture, to recognize the fact
that the apple crop will be down due to this year's weather. It was decided
not to reduce the fee, but to review the matter again next year.

THAT the Meeting be adjourned. "CARRIED"
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Committee
Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library at 6;30 p. m.
