HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-10-09 Minutes BOARD OF MANAGEMENT BOWMANVILLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p. m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Committee Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library. Present: Gilpin, Patterson (Rick& Barbara), Wileboer (John),Allin (Lori) Members: Lucas, Hooper, Mulder, Holmes, Rezazada, Barry Absent: Johnston The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized that there were no delegations present. Moved by Hooper, seconded by Holmes, THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated. "C, It ED" Correspondence was received fiom Margaret Seaton-Logeman, Classic Displays, Municipality of Clarington, Curious--The Day Tripper, the Visual Arts Centre and David Urso, President, Canadian Tire Store #170. Moved by Rezazada, seconded by Mulder, THAT the correspondence be received and filed. "CARRT..ED" The Tresurer presented his report as follows: He stated that he had signed the three-year contract with Classic Displays for the maintenance and installation of the Christmas lighting in the Dowtowh and had sent them a cheque for this year's service. He then reported that the final bill for the watering of the plants had been paid along Page 2 { with a payment to Todd Tremeer for the repairs to the murals. He concluded his report with following financial up-date: Current Account $27,836.13 GIC #1 30,000.00 GIC #2 5,538.18 Total $631374.31 Moved by Mulder, seconded by Rezazada, THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented. "CARRIED" Reports: Council Liaison: Hooper reported that he had been made aware of a protest rally planned for the Apple Festival by the Anti-Abortion Advocates. He ` later reported that a new parking meter officer had been hired by the Municipality. He concluded his report by saying that due to the increase in after-hour break-ins in Clarington, that the police were interested in any video tape footage from the Downtown business's cameras. Events: Mulder and Holmes reported that everything is in place for the Apple Festival and Craft Sale on Saturday, October 13. Membership Relations: No report. Streetscape: Gilpin reported that the watering of the plants is finished for this year. Hooper volunteered to call Rekker Garden Centre to have the hanging flower baskets removed. He will remove the flowers from the planters himself Communications: No report. Publications: Patterson reported that the Bowmanville Downtowner has been delivered to Clarington This Week for inclusion in their newspaper. Page 3 Board of Trade: No report. Website: Rezazada reported that she now has the website password and can make changes to the website. There was no `BUSINESS ARISING" from the previous meeting. Under "NEW BUSINESS", Hooper spoke to the letter sent to Council and forwarded to the Bowmanville BIA concerning changes to the Retail Holidays Act which would see retail stores being open on Statutory Holidays. After clarification, it was: Moved by Holmes, seconded by Mulder, THAT a letter be sent to Council in support of David Urso's letter of protest concerning the proposed changes to the Retail Holidays Act. G4LI'1N.�1.DD}9 The Board directed Patterson to contact Classic Displays as to the timing of the installation and later removal of the Christmas lighting in the Downtown. Patterson tabled the request from the Clarington Tourism Office concerning the placement of an advertisement in the 2013 Clarington Visitors guide, with 80,000 copies being made available at sites all along the 401 highway from the Quebec boarder to Windsor. Moved by Rezazada, seconded by Mulder, THAT one full-page advertisement be placed in the 2013 Clarington Visitors Guide, at a cost of$1,195 plus HST. "CARRIED" Hooper next tabled an email he had received fiom Kevin Anyan on behalf of the Rotary Club of Bowmanville who are interested in raising funds to purchase a stage for use by organizations in the Municipality. I Page 4 Moved by Barry, seconded by Mulder, THAT a letter be sent in support of the proposal by the Rotary Club of Bowmanville to purchase a stage for use by organizations in the Municipality of Clarington. "CARRIED,, Moved by Holmes, seconded by Rezazada, THAT the Meeting be adjourned. "CARRIED" The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in Committee Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library at 6:30 p. m. F
