1. Attendance taken.
2. Meeting called to order at 9:30 a.m.
3. Approval of May minutes,Accepted by S. Lawrence, Seconded by G. Lewis
4. Business Arising from Minutes: n/a
5. Treasurer report: there is currently a balance of$25,550.00, $8000 for the Santa Parade,
funds for Canada Day and flower expenses still to come out.
6. Committee Reports:
Safety&Decor: the flowers will be hung June 19, there is $2000 in the budget to water and
take them down. Rekkers will not be doing the flowers next year,Jackie is going to get
quotes from local garden centers. Theresa feels the banners are too high, and will consult
with the company regarding lowering them for next year.
Greg brought up the issue that a few BIA members have experienced vandalism/theft. Wendy
recommended sending a letter to Inspector Rolf Klume with our concerns and requesting a
greater police presence. Valentine has drafted one and we will submit It as soon as possible.
Advertising report from Catherine Peterson: As soon as the flower baskets are up, new pictures
will be taken of storefronts, street views, community hall and gardens, beach area and older
sections of Newcastle homes, churches, parks etc. for our website
I will be going out to all BIA businesses next week with more magnets and event listings. If you
would like more before then, please pickup at Curves.
The Visitor Overview website report for the period March 1 m May 31, 2012 is very encouraging!
Totals Visits: 4,197

The top two sources (where visitors found villageofnewcaslte.ca)were Clarington.net&
Facebook. if you have a Facebook account, be sure to visit & like Village of Newcastle's page,
Valentine added that Michelle Janz is looking for advertising from local businesses for a new
publication she Is doing twice a year"Newcastle News".
Special Events:
Canada Day is 2 weeks away, Karen is looking for volunteers to help with the many events
happening at the Rec Centre, if you are able to help please meet her at the Rec Centre at
7:30pm. Opening Ceremonies will be at 4pm with Bev Oda. BIA would like to encourage all
businesses to hang Canada flags and decorate in red and white. You can get flags at the dollar
stores.
Fail Festival planning is coming along, local restaurants are lined up to set up booths on the
streets,there is a pie auction planned,antique cars and tractor,jumping castles and face
painting was suggested.
There are a couple of BIA members interested in organizing the Breakfast with Santa which is
scheduled for November 24, 2012. So this event will be going ahead as a BIA event.
7. CBOT: They are moving their location to Division and King, it will be a larger space with a
board room available to rent out. CBOT is encouraging the BIA to come out to the "simply
social" networking nights.
S. Chamber News:The tradeshow this past weekend was a huge success.This year's event
broke records for vendors and visitors.
9. CIP: There will be a follow up meeting next Thursday June 21 to review the presentation and
go forward with the recommendations, all are welcome to attend. Steve Lawrence had some
issues with the bollards outside his store and would like them addressed; he would get in
touch with Faye directly.
10. New Business: The Horticultural Society is having their Grand opening for the gardens on July
22 from 1:30-4pm with the ribbon cutting at 2:00pm.
Ann Harley was not in attendance but had sent correspondence regarding the art show in
Bond Head and the Newcastle's of the World. That information is attached.
