1. Attendance taken.
2. Meeting called to order at 9:40 a.m.
3. Committee Reports:
Safety& Ddcor: Jackie is going to get 3 quotes for the next meeting.
Advertising:
Our website numbers are growing. Last August, we had 191 visits to the site and this August
we had 1822 visits. We strongly encourage businesses to consider advertising on the site, BIA
members get 50% off the regular cost. Catherine is going to speak to Theresa about seeing if
Clarington can create a"what to do between games"brochure, (Bowmanville currently has
one) advertising local attractions, restaurants in Newcastle to go to in-between hockey/soccer
games, tournaments.
Special Events;
Fall Festival planning is well under way, if you are interested in participating with your
business please contact Diana at deesharvesttabl�gmail.com she is also looking for
volunteers for 1-2 hours during the day. To get in the fall spirit businesses are asked to
decorate in a fall theme and if you are participating in the festival to dress up as a scarecrow.
Breakfast with Santa plans are coming along and the Vatandoust team will also require
volunteers to help out with this great event. Please contact them if you are available.
4. New Business:
Valentine was asked by Faye Langmaid if the BIA would show their support to the Historical
Society and their involvement in community leadership, He has prepared a letter to confirm
our support. Motioned was made by Deb Miller, and seconded by Helen Vatandoust.
A motion was made by Catherine Peterson and seconded by Deb Miller to make a donation
to the Canadian Cancer Society on behalf of the BIA in memory of Karen Bastas' mother.
A motion was made by Ann Harley and seconded by Jackie Foxa11 for the BIA to support the
Hall Board by recognizing the water fountain problems due to kids damaging it on a nightly
basis.
Culture days will be happening at the Gift of Art,September 28, 29, 30,with lots of activities
for the kids.Sports day in Canada is September 29, contact the Rec Centre for more
information.
