1. Attendance taken.
2. Meeting called to order at 9:35 a.m.
3. Committee Reports:
Safety&Decor: Jackie has started getting quotes for the hanging baskets for next summer,
she Is going to call a couple more local garden centers. We decided to have a more uniform
look for the downtown core, so she will ask to get all the same coloured flowers for the
baskets.
Advertising:
Stats are still showing the website numbers are growing with more
hits each month. As this seems to be the site that residents and
visitors are going to for information about our village, it would be
beneficial to BIA members to look into the advertising space
available on the site. It is a great opportunity for new business,
please contact Catherine at Curves for BIA special pricing.
Special Events:
Fall Festival was a success,the weather held up other than a little windll Diana presented
her report and learned a lot in the organizing process. She is prepared to do it again next
year with the help of a few other businesses.
The Santa Claus Parade is November 18 at 5:30pm, 1 month away.
For any businesses interested in having a float in the parade please
contact Karen Bastas at 905-987-3747 or entail
newcastlesantanarade2gmall.corn for applications. Please contact
Karen if you want to Sponsor the parade. This is a not for profit
event and all donations are welcome and necessary in order to run
the parade.
The parade will be once again selling buttons to raise money to go
towards paying for the bands, and featured floats. Karen will be
dropping some off at area businesses to sell prior to the parade.
The committee is looking for volunteers to dress up as clowns if you
have any highschool kids looking for volunteer hours, please contact
Karen.
4. New Business;
With the construction of the new fire station in the west end we will be contacting Veridian
to install poles to hang banners from to announce upcoming events. As well as an event
board as you enter downtown from hwy 2 and possible off the 401.
Theresa is going to arrange a speaker from Clarington planning to come to the next meeting
to talk about"streetscaping".
