B®WMANVILLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA
Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p. m.
on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Committee Room I-C in the Bowmanville
Library.
Present: Gilpin
Members: Lucas, Barry, Hooper, Mulder, Holmes, Seaton, Johnston
Absent: None
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized that
there were no delegations present.
Moved by Seaton, seconded by Mulder,
THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated.
"CARRIED"
Correspondence was received fiom Revitalizing Downtown Summit and
The Visual Arts Centre of Clarington.
Moved by Holmes, seconded by Seaton,
THAT the correspondence be received and fled. "CARRIED"
The Treasurer presented his report as follows:
Current Account $ 3,902.70
Money Market Fund #1 90,000.00
Money Market Fund #2 5,025.23
Total $ 98,927.93

THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented. "CARRIED"
Reports:
Council Liaison: Hooper reported that the central parking lot meters had
again been fixed. He stated that it was a software issue on the 20 King
Street East lot. He went on to report that the fee to park at the meters on the
street had not been increased, but that the fine for being parked at an expired
meter site is to be increased.
Events: Mulder had no report. Seaton proceeded to then do the draw for
the "Find the Robin Draw", held during the Maple Festival, held on May 7.
The winner was Pat Russell.
Membership Relations: Barry reported two new businesses in the
downtown--Touch of the Dutch and Amera Spa. Also he reported that Craig
Fromstein, Lawyer, had re-located from Church Street to King Street West.
Streetscape: Johnston reported that Rekker Gardens will not do the
watering of the flowers in the Downtown, but will lower the price of each
hanging flower basket to $18. Lucas then reported that Andrew Atkinson
said that he would do the watering. It was agreed that Atkinson do the
watering of the plants to a total cost of$8,000, at which point the watering
will stop and the plants taken down. Gilpin requested that Atkinson submit
invoices for his services on a monthly basis.
Communications: Holmes reported that the April Newsletter had been
delivered.
Publications: No report.
Board of Trade; No report.
Website: It was suggested that the Bowmanville Downtowner be displayed
on our website. Hooper agreed to contact Betz about doing this.

Under `BUSINESS ARISING" from the previous meeting, Hooper reported
that he had yet to review the website as to businesses listed there that are not
part of the Bowmanville BIA or which have gone out of business in the
Downtown.
Under "NEW BUSNESS", it was reported that two canopies had been
stolen overnight during the Maple Festival--one belonging to the
Bowmanville BIA and the other to a not-for-profit organization. Kooger
will be asked to contact the Commisionaires who provided overnight
security, concerning this matter.
Seaton reported that she had 15 businesses confirmed for the "What a Lady
Wants" promotion in June, with a possible nine additional.
Nominations to recognize businesses in the Downtown who have shown
recent special initiative are: Cathy's Gold, Chanterelle Bistro, Romancing
the Home, Hunter Sports Photography, Hoopers Jewellers Ltd., James
Insurance, and Stoddard Insurance. ' Lucas agreed to arrange for the
Certificates of Recognition, and then to have them framed for presentation.

THAT the Meeting be adjourned. "CARRIED"

Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library at 6:30 p. m.
