GUESTS: RON ALBRIGHT, PETER WINDOLF, ISABEL LITTLE from the Municipality giving a report
on the plans for street beautification in our town. The short term goal of the CIP is to extend
street lighting in town.The long term goal is for the entire area to be improved by heritage
lighting, beaches, gardens, business facades and to keep the integrity of the downtown
buildings. All organizations in the community should be involved along with the Town and
Region They are working on signage for the 4 gateways into Newcastle. The key issue is lighting
and a preference for a heritage style.The estimated cost for this is$1900 a metre.

2. Motion to Accept May Minutes: T.Vanhaverbeke Seconded; K.Bastas CARRIED
3. Treasurer's Report:Jackie was absent and will have detailed report at the next meeting.
Motion to donate $200 to Concerts in the Park: K.Bastas Seconded: J.Black CARRIED
4. Committee Reports:
Urban Planning: Flowers will be hung next week by Rekker's. Amos will water them.
Advertising:June Event will be advertised in This Week, Orono Times,Village Voice
mentioned on the radio plus posters and flyers.
Special Events:June 26"' all planned. Volunteers are needed throughout the day.
Santa Claus Parade: Mark and Martha presented their reconciled report.There are some
matters that have to be cleared up with the treasurer.There will be a committee with a
treasurer with sub committees for fundraising, bands,volunteers. Anyone wishing to
help with the parade planning in anyway is to contact Martha Hendrikx or the BIA.
There will be monthly reports back to the BIA. Someone from the SC Parade committee
should attend every BIA business meeting.The grant for$2500 from the Town has been
received.The proposed date of the parade is Sun. Nov. 27tH
5. Chamber News: A very successful Trade Show was held June 3`d. Networking is at Boston
Pizza on Mon.June 14tH at 5:30 p.m.
in Sept. the plans are for a speaker on small business.
6. CBOT:There was an energy summit in Bowmanville and plans were announced for the
extension of the 407.
7. Farmer's Market: Every Sunday at the arena. Looking for sponsors.
8. New Business:There was a discussion about what we can do to keep people shopping
local in Newcastle. Some business owners will meet and brainstorm ideas and report
back to the BIA members.There will be further discussion at the next meeting.
Motion to publish a letter in the Village Voice regarding "Save Our Town":

The members will be asked input first before this occurs by email.
