HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-11-11 Minutes NEWCASTLE BIA MINUTES THURS.NOV.11, 2010 Attendance: V.Lovekin, K.Bastas, J.Foxall, T.Vanhaverbeke, D.Miller, C.Peterson, B.McGaw, C.Summers, D.Hickson, Tricia &Trevor Sears, J.Black Guest Speaker: Sharon Lawrence from Gift of Art. The store is moving to anew location-187 King Ave. East by Feb. 1St. They will maintain a gallery, Gift Shop, host continuing workshops. Will be accessible to people of all abilities. Mardi Gras Night is Sat. March 5th at Town Hall: Dinner/Dance/Silent Auction. Merchants are asked for donations of prizes or Gift Certificates to support it. 1. Call to Order at 9:20 a,m. 2. Motion to Approve Oct. Minutes: J.Foxall. Seconded: K.Bastas CARRIED 3. President's Report: Valentine will invite Willie Woo to participate in the BIA meetings as our local representative. A letter will be sent to Gord Robinson expressing our gratitude to him for all his years of devoted service to our BIA. A letter will be sent to the Town regarding who cleans the area around .the bollards at Beaver & King. There will be a special meeting on Thurs. Nov. 251h to discuss next year's budget. 4. Treasurer's Report: Balance: $4,865.17. The aim next year to holdall costs to budget and retrieve costs for special events such as the parade through sponsors hi p/donations. Motion to approve Report: J.Foxall Seconded: J.Biack CARRIED 5. Committee Reports: Urban Planning: The wreaths and pole garlands will be up before the parade on the 21St. Scouts place the garlands for us. Advertising: A discussion about our own website. We will advertise in the Tourism Book for 2011. So far $2900 has been allocated for these items. discussed on how to promote out Town to its best advantage and include local merchants in the process. More information to follow at upcoming meetings. Special Events.: The parade is ready to go with the work of the committee and volunteers. Sponsorship money is expected to cover most of the costs. Santa Breakfast is planned for Sat. Nov.27th. Extra volunteers are needed for both events. 6. Chamber News: Networking at Old Newcastle House on Mon. Nov. 29th, at 5:30 p.m. AGM at Town Hall, Tuesday, Jan. 25th. 6:00 p.m. 7. BIA Annual Meeting; Mon. Jan.171h. Details at next meeting. Appointment/Elections of Directors will take place. Invitations will be extended to Gord Robinson, Willie Woo, Wendy Partner. There will be a $10 cost pp with the remainder to be supplemented by the BIA. S. New Business: The CIP is investigating costs of placing signs at the town's four entrances. We welcome the new IDA Pharmacy to the downtown. Welcome to SNAP Fitness which has also opened at the east plaza. 9. Next Business Meeting: Thursday, Dec. 9th at 6:15 p.m. at Town Hall, Historical Room. 10. The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
