HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-06-09 Minutes 1 � ! ► 1 Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p. m. on Tuesday, June 9 2010 in Committee Room 1-C at the Bowmanville Library. Present: Gilpin, Collis (Collis & Reed Research), DeVuono (Lou) Members: Lucas, Pedder, Seaton, Hooper, Barry Absent: Patterson, Allin, Vella The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized the following delegations: Lou DeVuono, founder of the "Ride for Our Troops", who stated that he was not planning to organize the ride next year. He went on to suggest that should the ride take place again that King Street should be closed fiom Scugog Road to Liberty Street to accommodate the number of motorcycles that he anticipated would take part. He noted that because the ride was free that it was growing in popularity from 138 last year to over 1,000 this year. He concluded his report by acknowledging that Peter Kooger did an excellent j ob in facilitating the event in the Downtown. Next Ron Collis made a brief presentation on the results of the surveys done between April 5 and May 25. He noted that 54% of the visitors to the Downtown came from Bowmanville and 10% came from Oshawa. A full printed report will be completed by the end of June. Moved by Hooper, seconded by Barry, THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated. "CARRIED" Page 2 Correspondence received was still in circulation and was not available at the meeting to be received and fled. The Treasurer presented his report as follows: Current Account $1 5,723.07 Money Market Fund #1 55000.00 Money Market Fund #2 75,073.72 Total Moved by Seaton, seconded by Barry, THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented. Reports: $95,796.79 "CARRIED" Council Liaison: Hooper reported that the banners were on the lamp posts in the Downtown. Events: No report. Membership Relations: Barry reported that a new store had opened in the Downtown called Diva Den, selling ladies wear and accessories. Streetscape: Pedder reported that June Binnington was working doing clean-up of the Downtown several hours a week. Communications: No report. Publications: No report. Board of Trade: Barry reported that he was present at a meeting today where a talk was given on the Government of Ontario's "New Build". Security/Alert: No report. Page 3 Website: Gilpin reported that Peter Parrott was almost finished taking the new photos of the businesses in the Downtown, for up-dating the website. Under `BUSINESS ARJSING" from the previous meeting, Lucas stated that he would speak to Allin about where to purchase the awards for "Special Initiatives". Under "NEW BUSINESS", Gilpin asked if there were any plans to recognize the retirement of Mr. Mulder of Mulder's Furniture. Moved by Hooper, seconded by Pedder, THAT a presentation be made to Mr. Mulder to recognize his retirement from business in the Downtown. Lucas agreed to speak to Janet Lange about creating a painting of his store front, which might also include Mr. Mulder sitting in an easy chair in the front window.
