HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-05-02 Minutes . s- BOARD OF MANAGEMENT rBOWMANVILLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p, in. on Tuesday, May 2, 2009 in Committee Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library. Present: Gilpin Members: Lucas, Barry, Hooper, Patterson, Pedder Absent: Arlin, Vella, Seaton. The Meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized that there were no delegations present. Moved by Hooper, seconded by Patterson, THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated. "CARRIED" The correspondence was received from Canadian Tire Corporation, Visual Arts Centre, OBIAA, Municipality of Clarington, and Michelle Crowe, Moved by Barry, seconded by Pedder, THAT the correspondence be received and filed. "CARRIED" Next the Treasurer presented his report a follows: Current Account $ 6330.91 GIC #1 25,139.34 GIC #2 75,000.00 Total x;106,470.25 Page 2 -� Moved by Patterson, seconded by Hooper, THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented "CARRIED" DIRECTOR REPORTS: Council Liaison: Hooper reported that the Municipality's Treasurer has stated that the hanging flower baskets do not qualify as Capital Works and can not, therefore, be paid for from the funds held by the Municipality for such purposes, Events: Patterson reported for Allin that the,recent Maple Festival and All That Jazz event was very successful and the it was the smoothest running one so far. Membership Relations: No report. Streeiscape: Pedder reported that Binnington is now cleaning the downtown on regular daily basis and that she is doing a good job. Everyone at the meeting agreed that the Downtown was looking much better. Communications: No report. Publications: No report. Security/Alert: Lucas tabled a preliminary report fi-om Vella who was unable to attend the meeting. i Board of Trade: No report, Website: No report. Under "BUSINESS ARISING", Hooper reported that the Municipal Staff had tabled their report on the cost of watering the hanging flower baskets. Their estimate was that it would cost approximately $16,500 per season. Under "NEW BUSINESS", Hooper reported that he had spoken to the F' l Page 3 person who made the lamp post banners for the Bowmahville Sesquicentennial, and that he had received a quoted price of fiom $65 to $85 per banner to make custom banners for the Downtown. Gilpin said that he would ask the Art Shop, who made the banners for the Downtown three years ago, what they would charge. The Board then decided that the banners should have the Canadian flag on one side and the words "Shop, Dine, Discover" in red lettering on a white background, on the other. Gilpin stated-that because the Home Hardware Store in the Downtown has closed that he requested that the Board approve the credit cards that he had secured from Canadian Tire Stores, for Rick Patterson, June Binnington and himself, with a credit limit of$3,000. Moved by Pedder, seconded by Patterson, "� _ THAT Canadian Tire Stores credit cards, with a total credit limit of$3,000, be given to Rick Patterson, June Binnington and Garth Gilpin for use in purchasing supplies for Historic Downtown Bowmanville. "CAR�tt)✓D" Gilpin tabled a contract which he had negotiated with Vince Powers to water -the hanging flower baskets and planters in the Downtown. It is anticipated that the water will be provided by the Municipality. Moved by Pedder, seconded by Barry, THAT the contract to water the hanging flower baskets and the planters in the Downtown ftom mid-June to mid-October, not to include water or fertilizer, submitted by Mince Powers of Power Mowers for $5,800, be approved.
