BOWMANVILLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA
Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6,30
p. m., on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in a meeting room at the Bowmanville
Library.
Present: Gilpin, (Isabel)Little (Deputy Clerk)
Members: Lucas,Patterson, Seaton, Vella, Hooper, Barry
Absent: Pedder,Allin
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who theta recognized
Isabel Little, the Deputy Clerk, who stated that she was present on behalf of
Fay Langm.aid, the Special Projects Manager, to answer any questions on
the proposed new Sign By-law. . She pointed out that the Sign By-law only
applies to signs in the Municipality that are on private property. As most of
the Bowmanville BIA si na a is on Municipal right of ways, the Sign By-
law law
does not apply to these signs. However, it was noted that two of the
signs are on private property the next coining event sign on the front of the
Bank of Montreal, and the Welcome sign at the eastern end of the
Downtown. She noted that the projected (on the wall) sign at the western,
end of the Downtown would not be allowed under the By-law.
Moved by Seaton, seconded by Vella,
THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated.

Correspondence was received from the Municipality of Clarington.

THAT the correspondence be received and filed. "CARRIED

THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented.

Reports:
Council Liaison: Hooper reported that he was still attempting to have a
decal with the free parking information installed on the top of the parking
meter heads.
Events: No repoil.
Membership Relations: Barry reported that one new business had opened in
the Downtown since the last meeting,Fusion Hairstyling.
Streetscape: Gilpin reported for Pedder that Rekker Garden Gallery should
be installing the hanging flower baskets:next week. Hooper stated that the
Bowmanville Horticultural Society would be putting plants in the street
planters next week also. Hooper fiirtlier stated that water was now available
for the watering of the flowers,
Communications. No report. .

Board of Trade: Barry reported that special funding for the promotion of
downtowns in Ontario had been announced,
Security Alert: Vella reported that she was finalizing the After -Hours
Emergency.Alert-telephone list. This is a list of telephone numbers where
business owners can be reached after regular business hours in case of an
emergency at their business site. The cut-off_date to be on this list. is
Wednesday,,June 24, 2009. Business owners are urged to telephone Karen
Vella at her store, GATHER, at 905-679-3510 before this date

Under "BUSINESS ARISING" fi•om the previous meeting, Gilpin reported
that a Canadians banner had been designed by the Art Shack and approved
by a committee. Hooper .reported that he had presented the banner to
Council and that they had agreed to release $3,800 from the funds held in
escrow by the Municipality for Use by the Bowmanville BIA in order to
purchase the 60 banners needed.
There was no "NEW BUSINESS".

THAT the Meeting be adjourned.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in
Committee Room C-1 at the Bowmanville Library at 6:30 p. m.
