HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-03-06 Minutes Newcastle DBIA Meeting Thursday, March 6, 2008 o Newcastle Historical Room 9:30 a.m. Present: Dwight Hickson, Lorraine Forget, Todd Fitzgerald, Karen Bastas, Valentine Lovekin, Greg )wis, Brenda Metcalf, Judy Clapperton, Steve Lawrence, John Albi, Michelle Jansz, Councillor Gord tobinson Regrets: J.Black, J.Sommers, S.Johnson,J.Kimball Guest: Natalie Bowers, KX96 Chair Valentine called the meeting to order and the minutes of the February meeting were approved on motion by 'Todd, seconded by Greg. CARRIED Todd introduced Natalie Bowers, Marketing Consultant for KX96 Radio who spoke to us on advertising. A handout on her presentation was distributed to all present. The station offers a number of options for advertising. Valentine thanked Natalie. Todd suggested we add a website address to the village signage. Gord noted that the CIP identified signage as a priority in their plan. Metroland could be asked to do a "Spotlight on Newcastle". Valentine read a letter from the Municipality re: Volunteer Service Recognition Award s-Ap r.30th. Deadline for nominations--April 4t` by 4:30 p.m. Valentine or Jane have forms. Financial Report by Brenda shows a bank balance of$2860.77 with $1800. in accounts payable. John will follow up on the unpaid advertisers. Jane has a plan of action sheet ready for all Committees/Events. This must be submitted to the BIA for approval — 3 months prior to the planned event. Judy presented a well researched spreadsheet on marketing to the BIA and Todd will follow up on the iggestions. Dwight made motion that a letter be sent from the Chair to the Santa Claus Parade committee asking for their 2007 financial statement and their plan of action for 2008 with a response deadline of April 10. Seconded by John. Carried. The Chamber sponsored Youth Dances continue to be very well attended Help is always needed. The website has solicited a number of inquires about Newcastle. Breakfast meetings are in the planning stages. Topics may include insurance, business planning.... There was no Urban Planning report. Karen reported on the Easter Event—March 22. Tickets for the breakfast are available. Volunteers are needed for the Breakfast at the Hall. She is still taking donations for the prize draw baskets. Judy moved that a letter be sent to the Municipality to investigate the possibility of-additional public parking in the village. Seconded by John. Carried. Valentine will send this letter. Judy talked about a summer event as noted on her written report. We will look for an Action Plan for the lemonade Sale, traditionally held in June. Gord told us that the CIP is now ready. Isabelle Little is still the Municipal contact. (,. public information session on the new sign by-law in the Municipality will be held in April. 'red Horvath will be asked to attend a meeting to talk to us and hear our concerns re:sidewalks Gord moved adjournment. Next meeting: Thursday, April 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Town Hall.
