HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-06-12 Minutes Newcastle BIA Minutes June 12, 2008. Attendance: V.Lovekin, B.Metcalf, G.Robinson, K.Bastas, D.Hickson, L.Forget, T.Vanhaverbeke, T. Fitzgerald, J.Foxall, J.Black Regrets: J.Summers, J.Kimball, J.Clapperton, S.Lawrence I. Call to Order: 9:30 a.m. Guest: Scott Taylor demonstrated the various kinds of brackets for use on street poles for flags, banners and flowers. Cost is approximately $100 per bracket and $50 per banner. Motion: B. Metcalf Seconded: J.Foxail The BIA strike a steering committee to investigate the number of pole brackets needed for banners and flags for the downtown. CARRIED Jackie Foxall, Theresa Vanderbeke, Lorraine Forget, Gord Robinson volunteered to be committee members. They will report at the next meeting. Motion: K.Bastas Seconded: T.Vanhaverbeke Approval of the recommendations made by the committee made by e-mail vote to all the members. CARRIED 2. Minutes from the May meeting. €. Motion to adopt as amended: D.Hickson Seconded: K.Bastas CARRIED 3. Business arising from the minutes: Discussion about flags and flowers. Tenzin will be contacted about them. 4. President's Report: There was a meeting May 15 with David Crome at Bowmanville Town Hall regarding the west-end development money allocation. V.Lovekin, . B.Metcalf, K.Bastas, J.Black represented Newcastle and there were 2 representatives from Orono attending. Our proposal was to have an independent mediator if needed and send a letter to Orono with a deadline for a decision based on town statistics (number of businesses, community space, population, land area and levy charges). Mr. Crome was open to all ideas and to the option of a mediator if the problem could not be resolved. Ir-i Motion: B.Metcalf Seconded: J.Foxall A letter be drafted to Orono proposing a 70130 split of money based on town statistics t cs and a cc sent to David Crome. Once sent, a decision is to be made by Orono's next BIA meeting. CARRIED (Abstain: G. Robinson) S. Treasurer's Report: Balance: $23,209.29 $200 was donated for concerts- done by an email vote of 29 responses. Five invoices owing BIA (sent Sept.,Dec.,May) are still outstanding. A final letter will be sent by Brenda to them and then the matter will be referred to collections. Motion to Accept the Report:T. Fitzgerald Seconded: T.Vanhaverbeke CARRIED 6. New Business: BIA Rep. for the Farmer's Market. Motion: D.Hickson Seconded: K. Bastas The BIA approve Brenda Metcalf as the BIA representative. CARRIED The Clarington Board of Trade needs a new rep. from the Newcastle BIA. Businesses will be asked for a volunteer. The CBOT meets monthly in Bowmanville Town Hall on the second Tuesday. 7.
