Attendance: V.Lovekin, G.Robinson, K.Bastas, B.Metcalf, D&D Miller,

Regrets: D.Hickson, J.Summers, J. Kimball
1. Call to Order: 9:30 a.m.
2. Guest: Ann Harley from the Newcastle Arts Festival-July 12"'- at lake
51 local artisans. There may be an artist's cooperative set up in the town
to showcase local artists in the fall.
3. Minutes from the June 12th meeting;

4. Business arising from the minutes:
Letter is to be sent to Orono indicating our proposal for west-end money.
Letters for outstanding invoices have been sent,
The Board of Trade representative will be Steve Lawrence.
5. President's Report:
Reports from the 2006, 2007 Santa parades have been received.
$2000 grant from the Municipality is still to be deposited.
6. Treasurer's Report: Balance: $24,029.91
Some outstanding invoices have been received.
Motion to accept Report: K.Bastas Seconded: S.Lawrence CARRIED
7. Committee Reports:
Urban Planning: The committee for flags and banners submitted a report.
A quote will come from V. Hamilton for Christmas lights and invite him
to a meeting.
Letters will be sent to 3 local Garden Centres for submission of quotes
for 2009 street flower baskets.
Fall Festival-Oct.3, 4: The road closures and final plans will be discussed
and approved at the August meeting with a Plan of Action.
The BIA will use the hall for a fundraiser if the Chamber does.not need it.
The Committee will meet with all parties involved on July 16th.
Motion: We recognize the issue of road closure and details of any
construction/detours and leave the decision of location of Fall Festival
to the committee who will relay information to the BIA.
(Choosing the site is based on information from the Region.)

8. Councillor Robinson:
The new Recreation Centre will officially open on Sat. Oct.4`"
There was a discussion about the intersection of King and Beaver Sts.
A letter will be sent by the BIA through Gord to ask for a better sight line
and expedite the traffic lights at Brookhouse/King intersection.
Motion: K. Bastas Seconded: J. Foxall
Newcastle BIA considered traffic issues on King Ave. East at the Beaver St.
intersection. We recommend action be taken to promote public safety, There
is no objection raised at our meeting that there be installation of bullards on
the NW and SW corners of Beaver and King as an interim measure until
warrants are met for the installation of traffic lights there. CARRIED
There are banners installed at the four corners supporting our troops.
9. Chamber News: We will confirm use of the hall on Oct.4`n
10. Other Business:
There is a new committee for the Farmer's Market.
11. Next meeting: Thursday, Aug. 14 at 9:30 a.m.
Upcoming meetings for 2008: Oct.9, Nov.13, Dec.l 1.
