HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-11-11 Minutes BOARD OF MANAGEMENT BOWMANVILLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p. m., on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 in Committee Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library. Present: Gilpin Members: Barry, Seaton,Allin, Lucas, Patterson Absent: Hooper, Turner, Vella The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized that there were no delegations present. Moved by Barry, seconded by Patterson, THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated. "CARRIED" Correspondence was received from the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade Committee, Timeless Publications, University of Waterloo, Municipality of Clarington, Classic Displays, and the Salvation Army. Moved by Seaton, seconded by Allin, THAT the correspondence be received and filed. "CARRIED" The Treasurer presented his report as follows: Current Account $ 19,628.12 GIC 14,834.04 Total $ 34,462.16 ti Page 2 s A detailed Interim Financial Statement was presented and is attached to these Minutes. Moved by Seaton, seconded by Allin, THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented. "CARRIED" Director Reports: Council Liaison: No report. Events: Allin reported that all the plans were in place for the up-coming Christmas Moonlight Magic and Tree Lighting Ceremony, on Friday evening, December S. She further stated that about the same number of merchants as last year had agreed to the Christmas hours during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Membership Relations: Barry reported that no new businesses had opened r in the Downtown since the last Board meeting. Streetscape: No report. Communications: Patterson reported that the Christmas Moonlight Magic poster and the invitations to the pre--Christmas Wine and Cheese party were being distributed this week. Publications: Seaton reported that the next advertisement in the Toronto Daily Star will appear in the Thursday, November 13 issue. Security/Alert: Seaton tabled on behalf of Vella, the proposed Shoplifter Security Alert information which will be printed on a card for each merchant in the Downtown. Gilpin suggested that the telephone numbers on the alert be checked for accuracy. Board of Trade: Barry reported that he had not attended a Board of Trade meeting since the last Board meeting. Under "BUSINESS ARISING" from the previous meeting, Gilpin requested direction as to how he should proceed with the Classic Displays' three-year contract at a cost of$6,554.00 annually, ending on October 31, 2011. Moved by Patterson, seconded by Allin, THAT Gilpin be directed to sign the contract for the three year term, on be half of the Board, and return it to Classic Displays. "CARRIED" "No action taken" was reported on the proposed request to the Municipality that they assume responsibility for watering the plants in the Downtown, or on the suggestion of investigating having a farmers' on the Remax lot on King Street West. Under "NEW BUSINESS", Gilpin requested direction on the arrangements for the pre-Christmas Wine and Cheese party. Moved by Allin, seconded by Patterson, THAT the pre-Christmas Wine and Cheese party be held at Chanterelle Bistro, on Tuesday, November 25, from 7 until 9:30 p. m. "CARRIED" Discussion took place on the presentation to Richard Rekker. Lucas was directed to have a local artist do a painting of the hanging flower baskets on the bridge, Gilpin was directed to have a plaque prepared, and Lucas agreed to mount the plaque and frame the painting. Moved by Allin, seconded by Barry, THAT the Meeting be adjourned. "CARRIED" The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in Committee t. Room 1-C in the Bowmanville Library at 6:30 p. m.
