BOWMANVILLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA
Minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Management held at 6:30 p. m.
on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 Committee Room 1-C in the Bowmanville
Library.
Present: Gilpin, Marion Manders (Elections Ontario)
Members: Lucas, Barry, Hooper, Patterson, Hawkins, Turner, Allin
Absent: Moffatt, Becz
The Meeting was called to order by the Chairman, who then recognized
Marion Manders from Elections Ontario who made a presentation on
Referendum 2007 on electoral reform.

THAT the Minutes of the previous meeting be adopted as circulated.

The correspondence was received for the June meeting: The Visual Arts
Center of Clarington, and the Municipality of Clarington, and for the
September meeting: Municipality of Clarington.

THAT the correspondence be received and filed. "CA FED"

Next the Treasurer presented his report a follows:

THAT the Treasurer's Report be adopted as presented "CARRIED"
DIRECTOR REPORTS:
Council Liaison: No :report.
Events: Allin reported that the planning for the up-coming Apple Festival
and Craft Sale is well underway.
Membership Relations: Barry stated that new businesses in the Downtown
included Wicked Wendy's Western Wear, PG Ice Cream Shop, Attractions,
and a new orthodontist.
Streetscape: No report.
Communications: Patterson reported that the posters for the Apple Festival
are currently being printed.
Publications: No report.
Board of Trade: Hawkins announced that there is a seminar planned for
October 24, called "Bridges to Better Business" hosted by the Clarington
Board of Trade.
Website: No report.
Under `BUSINESS ARISING", Hooper reported that he would ask again
about the replacement of the wood on the benches in the Downtown. Also,
Moffatt will not be developing a colouring book this year due to ill health,

Under "NEW BUSINESS", Gilpin announced that it was on Tuesday, July
2014 1982 that he was asked by the Board to assume the role of Business
Manager—and that was 25 years ago. The Board recognized Gilpin's long
years of service to the Downtown with applause and congratulations.
Hooper reported that in order to obtain free bus service on the day of the
Apple Festival that the process begins with a resolution at a local Council
meeting, which he said he will make.
In order to ensure that the police will be present at the Apple Festival to
direct traffic it was agreed that Lucas, Hooper, Gilpin and (Rick) Patterson
meet with the Inspector of 16 Division to discuss the matter.
Hooper tabled photos taken of the "Welcome to Historic Downtown
Bowmanville" sign showing the vandalism done to it during the summer. A
new design will be presented at the next meeting with a view to replacing
this signage at both ends of the Downtown.
Hooper also reported that a new logo design will be tabled at the November
meeting for discussion.
Lucas then asked for a motion to approve his decision to give $100 to the
Rob Pionek Memorial Fund.
Moved by Allin, seconded by Turner,
THAT $100 be donated to the Rob Pionek Memorial Fund. "CARRIED"
Gilpin reported that he had renewed the contract with Classic Displays for
the Christmas lighting in the Downtown for one more year at the same rate
as was paid annually over the past three years.
It was decided that the All-Members Annual Christmas Party would be held
on Wednesday, November 21 at Chanterelle Restaurant beginning at 7 p. m.
A presentation will be made to Marion Child on that occasion for her many
years as a merchant in Downtown Bowmanville.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 13, 2007 in
Committee Room 1-C at 6:30 p. m. in the Bowmanville Library or at the call
of the Chair.
