THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW NUMBER 89 - 107
being a By-law to regulate the use of skateboards
and bicycles in the Town of Newcastle
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle deems it
necessary to regulate the use of skateboards within the limits of the Town
of Newcastle; and
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle, pursuant
to the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1980, Chapter 302, Section 208, Subsection 42,
has authority to enact such by-law;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Corporation of the
Town of Newcastle enacts as follows:
1. No person shall ride a skateboard or bicycle on any public sidewalks as identified as per
Schedule "A" attached hereto and forming part of this by-law.
2. No person shall ride a skateboard or bicycle on the Division Street municipal parking lot,
the Town of Newcastle Fire Department parking lots, or property by the Post Office
situated on Temperance Street as identified as per Schedule "A" attached hereto and
forming part of this by-law.
3. No person shall ride a skateboard on:
(i) Municipal Administrative Centre property at 40 Temperance Street,
Bowmanville
(ii) Any public streets as identified as per Schedule "A" attached hereto and
forming part of this by-law; or
(iii) Any municipally owned or operated recreational facility and it's adjoining
lands unless otherwise posted.
4. No person shall ride a skateboard or bicycle on any public street in a manner likely to
interfere with the movement of traffic.
5. Every person who contravenes any provision of this by-law is guilty of an offence and
liable to a fine on conviction as provided for in the Provincial Offences Act.
This By-law shall come into force and take effect on the date of enactment.
That By-law 80-36 is hereby repealed.
