aBJECT: MINISTRY OF HOUSING GRANT
MUNICIPAL BUILDING DEPARTMENTS
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD-232-89 be received;
2. THAT Staff be authorized to apply to Buildings Branch of the Ministry of Housing
for a grant to enhance and improve the various operational activities of the
Building Division.
1. BACKGROUND:
1.1 Financial Assistance is available from the Ministry of Housing under the
Building Administrative Fund to improve the processing of building permits,
to refine inspection procedures, upgrade building record maintenance and
generally to make the administrative and inspection processes more efficient
with fewer delays and disruptions thereby strengtbing service to the public.
1.2 The funding is available to the municipality for the Building Department
exclusively and is in the form of a grant. Grants are limited to 50% of the
cost of the project or $5,000.00 whichever is less.

1.3 Conditions provide that a detailed proposal of the project be submitted
outlining details of the work to be undertaken and stating goals and
objectives.
1.4 A commitment from Council in the form of a resolution authorizing staff to
apply must accompany the proposal and submitted by September 30, 1989.
2. COMMENTS:
2.1 Staff intend to take advantage of the Ministry grant programme and to utilize
the fund to enhance our existing computer system with the objective to
improve our Building Division operation.
2.2 Funds are available in the Department budget to cover the 50% cost to be
borne by the Town.
