SUECT: PETITION FROM RESIDENTS REGARDING
ABSEC PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
NEWCASTLE VILLAGE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD- 155 -89 be received for information.
1. BACKGROUND:
1.1 The attached petition signed by some residents of the Absec Subdivision was
received by the Mayor and Members of Council and subsequently forwarded to
Staff.
2. COMMENTS:
2.1 Inspection records of all properties owned by residents whose signature
appeared on the petition were examined to determine the time and extent of
inspections. (List attached)
2.2 In addition, Staff attempted to contact by phone, those persons signing the
petition to learn what the specific problems were with respect to their
individual homes and the treatment received from Staff.

2.8 With respect to the nineteen (19) signatures on the petition, Staff
have: - 6 letters requesting their name be withdrawn
- 3 requests to remove their name
- 4 unable to contact
In addition 14 letters from owners (not on the petition) indicating
satisfaction with house and 1 Town of Newcastle Staff member satisfied
with house
3. CONCLUSION:
From the beginning, Building Division Staff have undertaken to
discharge their duties and responsibilities in a diligent and
conscientious manner.
Site visits by inspection staff have been made on a daily basis and
more recently have increased to a minimum of 2 each day. There has
been co- operation and quick response by staff to the concerns voiced
by the residents.
From investigation, the allegations appear to be unfounded.
