Subject: CLARINGTON WATERFRONT TRAIL TOUR
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD -51 -95 be received;
2. THAT Council endorse the tentative schedule of events listed
on Attachment #1; and
3. THAT Council approve $ 1,500.00 to be drawn from the
Unclassified Administration Receptions and Tributes Account
(7007 -X- 0235).
1. BACKGROUND
1.1 The Waterfront Trail from Hamilton to Trenton is near
completion. In order to raise public awareness of the Trail
Mr. David Crombie, Commissioner, of the Waterfront
Regeneration Trust will travel the entire Waterfront Trail
beginning on May 14 in Hamilton and ending on June 11 in
Trenton. Mr. Crombie will be in Clarington on June 1, 1995.
Mr. Crombie will be attending official trail openings and
waterfront festivals as he passes through each community.
1.2 A Waterfront Trail Tour Committee has been organized,
comprised of Staff from the Planning and Development
Department, Community Services and the Economic Development

Department. The Committee has been organizing Clarington's
Waterfront Trail Tour and festivities.
2. TRAIL TOUR
2.1 The Committee has prepared an Trail route (attachment 1) and
itinerary (attachment 2) for the Trail Tour on June 1st. Some
of the highlights of the Trail Tour include:
• 9:00 am
Walk through Darlington Provincial
Park
• 10:30 am
Ribbon cutting at Darlington
Generating
Stations for that portion of the Trail
• 12:00 pm
Historical storytelling of the Port
Darlington
Area
• 1 :00 pm
BBQ and presentation at the
Municipal
Administrative Centre
• 2:30 pm
Interpretative walk through the Wilmot Creek
Valley
• 4:00 pm
Tour ends in Bond Head
2.2 A number of activities will take place at the Municipal
Administrative Centre, requiring a parking restriction on the
west side of Temperance Street from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Tentative activities include a BBQ hosted by the Clarington
United Way Committee, with proceeds going to the United Way,
activities for children and an appearance by an elephant from
the Bowmanville Zoo.
2.3 The Committee has also planned a walk through the Bowmanville
Valley from Baseline Road to Downtown Bowmanville. The
landowners have given consent for the Tour to proceed through
their lands.
2.4 The Region of Durham Public Works Department will host a
public open house of the Bowmanville Water Supply Plant. The

Plant will be opened from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Although the
open house is part of the day's festivities, given the number
of activities planned, it will not be toured by Mr. Crombie.
3. RECOMMENDATION
3.1 The Planning and Development Department requests Council's
endorsement of the proposed itinerary. Further we request that
Council set aside a maximum of $1,500.00 to be used to cover
costs associated with this event.
3.2 Members of Council are asked to make note of June 1, 1995 so
they will be available to participate in the Trail Tour.

CLARINGTON WATERFRONT TRAIL TOUR

THURSDAY JUNE 1, 1995
9:00 a.m. Mayor, Members of Council and others meet Mr. Crombie and his staff
at the western gate of Darlington Provincial Park, and walk the
Waterfront trail through the Park.
10:00 a.m. Cycle from the Park to Darlington Generating Station.
10:30 a.m. The Official opening of Darlington Generation Station's section of the
trail. Mr. Crombie arrives at the western entrance of Darlington
Generating Station, greeted by R. Strickart, Station Manager, students
from Waverly Public School and Trail Volunteers.
11:30 a.m. Cycle from Maple Grove Road to Waverly Road, and walk the Trail
from Waverly Road to the Bowmanville Harbour Conservation Area.
12:00 p.m. Arrives at the Bowmanville Harbour Conservation Area. Historical
story- telling of the area.
12:30 p.m.- Bowmanville Water Supply Plant Open House
3:00 p.m.
12:30 p.m. Walk to downtown Bowmanville through the Bowmanville Valley.
1:00 P.M. Arrives at the Municipal Administrative Centre. BBQ luncheon in
conjunction with a United Way drive. Mayor make presentation to Mr.
Crombie
1:45 p.m Departure from the Municipal Administrative Centre by elephant, via
King Street to the Bowmanville Zoo.
2:15 p.m. Arrives at the Bowmanville Zoo and by car proceeds to the Wilmot
Creek area.
2:30 p.m. Interpretive nature walk through the Wilmot Creek valleylands.
3:30 p.m. Cycle from Wilmot Creek to Bond Head
4:00 p.m. Arrives at Bond Head.
