Parks: ZaT—Tvrone Park; Tyrone Hall Association wants assistance from the Town of Newcastle regarding work on their new soccer pitch. This is an old corn field next to the present pitch. They want it levelled and grass seed planted. This project requires a bulldozer and grader. (b) Newcastle Village Sub -Division Land Site: This area requires heavey equipment to grade it for park use. The Works Department equipment woul not oe able to do this job properly. After it has been levelled off, it requires grass seed. (c) Newcastle Village Park: Recommend the entrance to the Park have a chain and two posts errected to keep cars out. There is considerable damage tothe grass through cars racing around the parks at night. (d) Waverly Road Park: This proposed park area is next door to the 6Javerly Public School. The park area has 'to be ploughed, graded and grass seed planted. Should be done now. (e) Soper Creek Park: The following playground equipment has been ordered from the hendecson Recreation Equipment Ltd., Norwich, Ontario. (f) Orono Park g eshment Booth: Mr. Ryles McLeod who rented the Orono Park Refrshment 'ooth will not be operating the booth next year. He would like to sell his grill, pop cooler etc. to the Department of Recreation. The Owner of the Fried Chicken Restaurant in Orono is interested in running the booth next year. I would recommend that we do not buy Mr. McLeod's equipment. (g) Memorial Park - Bowmanville: Work will be started on the new swimming pool, We nes ay c ober 9th, 1974. We will be..' moving the Playgrounds swings on Monday 7th. All safety precautions will be taken. - 2 2. Arena's (a) Darlington Sports Centre. Advertisements regarding ice time available were placed in the following papers twice: "Oshawa. Times" Oshawa "This Week" "Orono Times" "Newcastle Reporter" "Canadian Statsman". (b) DgrlinZtcn Sports Centre_: Permission for the Manager, Mr. Fred Smith to buy office and caretaking supplies. (c) Mr. Fred Smith, cgnager of the DarlingtonSports Centre started his duties on Tuesday Oct. 1st, 1974 and is working out of the Recreation Office in Bowmanville. (e) Memorial Arena; With reference to purchase of Popcorn Machine for the Arena under 1974 Capital Budget Expenditures - amount ($350.00). I would like permission from the Community Services Committee to transfer the ($350.00) for the Popcorn Machine for a new P. A. System for the Bowmanville Arena, as it is not worth the money to be repaired. I feel this request is a reasonable and urgent one. Cost of the P. A. System, including installation is ($325.00) . 3. Recreation Activities. (a) R cre.ation Girls Hockey League: Recommend that a Girls Hockey League be conducted and that the fee be $10.00 (ten dollars) per player. (b) Orono Town Hall: Due to the success of the Country & Western Concert at Orono Park „ last August, I would like to conduct the same type of concert on Sunday afternoon, November 17, in the Orono Town Hall. It would be appreciated if Town Council would allow tLis Department (6140.00) for aquiring a Band and advertising. There will be an admission charge. (c) I would like to set up a programe for C:iildren and Teenagers in the Orono Town Hall and possibly in the Orono Public School. There arc, num.ers of adult volunteers who are willing to assist with this programe. (d) Drop In Centre_ (S2pe. Creel. Park): Mr. Neil Newton and his Art Council Group are conducting a printing seminar in the Drop -In -Centre on October 4th, 5th and 6th. Early in November on a week -end, they will be conducting a Photograph seminar. (e) Hockey Rtgi.stration. Miscl° Mr. Gary Wilson, )resident of the Town Coaamarcial Hockey League has been informed regarding Resolution No. C-5-78-74, passed by Cpuncil on April 15th, 1974 regarding no alcoholic beverabcs on the Municipal owned property.
