REPORT TO: MRS. SHEILA PARKER, CHAIRMPERSON AND TRUSTEES OF THE
NORTHUMBERLAND AND NEWCASTLE BOARD OF EDUCATION.
FROM: T.A. FANNING, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SERVICES
DATE: September 25th, 1980
SUBJECT: WATER SUPPLY AT THE DARLINGTON SPORTS CENTRE
We would like the Board to reconsider our proposal of September 11th,
1980, which was presented to the Board Meeting on the same day, regarding
hooking into the water system at M.J. Hobbs School.
This would be a temporary measure, as we intend to install a permanent
system to the creek. This system would be installed
sometime in April or May of 1981.
At the present time water is being delivered to the Centre by the
Newcastle Fire Department and by private trucking. If we are unable to hook up
with the school system then we will be drawing water all winter. This would be
a very costly and inconvenient burden.
The water system in the Centre is designed for 100% recirculation for
the refridgeration plant. The problem we foresee will occur during peak
periods when the facility is well used. Furthermore, the peak period would occur
during evening hours and weekends when the school is not in use.
If this system was incorporated it is my belief that it would not
jeopordize the school water supply. If a problem should arise we would
immediately shut off the system to the Arena.
Please find attached report from James Faulkner for your information.

Attn: Mr. Joe Caruana,
Dear Sir:
Futher to our phone conversation of September 19th (to-day)
regarding the water supply situation at the arena, I have inspected
the water system at Hobb' s School and have arrived at the following
suggestions.
We list four choices available to you to supply the arena with
water.
1. Instal a water line from the School building directly to the
Arena storage tank with a float control.
2. Re work the well head of the school_ well to accommodate two
pumps using the back well pump from the Arena property with
no change to the tank at the arena using arena hydro to
operate the system. This would have to be done on a Saturday.
3. Follow through on the system from the creek, as submitted
previously.
4. Try another well .
Of all four suggestions number 2 would ba the most economical
approach.
Hope this will assist you in your discussion.
Yours very truly,
Faulkner Well Drilling Co. Ltd. ,
James A. Faulkner.
