THAT Report CLD-016-13 be received; and 2. THAT the by-law appointing Mr. Eric Baird as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer, attached to Report CLD-016-13, be passed. BACKGROUND The Municipal Law Enforcement Division has hired a student to work as an enforcement officer for the summer months primarily on complaints of long grass and weeds as well as West Nile concerns for standing water. The student, Eric Baird, is currently enrolled in full-time post secondary courses in the field of law enforcement. Mr. Baird will commence his duties on May 6t" with an in-service training course organized by the Manager of Municipal Law Enforcement to familiarize him with municipal procedures and the by-laws that he will be responsible for. Once that is completed he will be enforcing the by-laws. In order to be able to perform his duties he need to be appointed as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer for the Municipality of Clarington. Accordingly, it is recommended that the attached by-law be forwarded to Council for passage. 2. CONCURRENCE: Not Applicable 3. CONCLUSION: In order for Eric Baird to be able to perform his duties as an officer, it is necessary for an appointment by-law to be passed by Council. CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON 40 TEMPERANCE STREET, BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO L1C 3A6 T 905-623-3379 THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON BY-LAW NO. 2013- Being a By-law to appoint a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer WHEREAS the Police Services Act R.S.O. 1990, c. 10, Section 15 (1), authorizes a Council of any Municipality to appoint one or more Municipal Law Enforcement Officers, who shall be Peace Officers for the purpose of enforcing the By-laws of the Municipality; and WHEREAS it is desirable to appoint ERIC BAIRD as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer by By-law for the purpose of enforcing the By-laws of the Municipality of Clarington as amended; NOW,THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington hereby enacts as follows: 1. THAT ERIC BAIRD is hereby appointed as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer for the Municipality of Clarington. 2. THAT Eric Baird's appointment as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer shall remain in effect for the duration of his term of employment with the Municipality of Clarington.
