THAT Report PD-53-90 be received for information. 1. This report is to update Council on actions taken by Staff since Council passed a resolution on November 26, 1990 recommending among other things, that "Staff be authorized to undertake the necessary preparatory steps for the undertaking of a CAUSE Study. . . . . . " . 2 . On November 27, 1990 the Town of Newcastle Planning and Development Department and the Bowmanville Business Centre jointly applied to the Ontario Association of Architects CAUSE Committee for a CAUSE Study to be done for Downtown Bowmanville. 3 . On January 16, 1991 an evaluation visit was conducted by CAUSE Committee representative Tony Griffiths . Mr. Griffiths submitted an evaluation report for the prospects of a Downtown Bowmanville CAUSE Study and the report was favourable. 4 . On February 13, 1991 the Ontario Association of Architects advised the Director of Planning and Development, the Bowmanville Business Centre Community Liaison (Al Strike) and the CAUSE Committee Representative (Tony Griffiths) that the CAUSE Committee had, on January 30, 1991, approved a CAUSE Study for Downtown Bowmanville. 2 REPORT NO. : PD-53-91 PAGE 2 The proposed date of the CAUSE Study Weekend is September 26th - 30th, 1991 and it appears to be acceptable to all concerned. 5 . The CAUSE Steering Committee (the local backers of the CAUSE Study) has been assembled. It is comprised of eight (8) members under the Co-chairmanship of David Crome representing the Town of Newcastle and Al Strike representing the Bowmanville Business Centre (BIA) . The Committee Members are as follows: George Webster (BIA) Charlie Trim (Goodyear Canada Inc. ) Peter Parrott (Canadian Statesman) Steve Wiggens (recommended by L.A.C.A.C. ) Brad Hockin (Trinity United Church Social Outreach Group) Lennis Trotter (Northumberland-Durham Society of Architects) Bob Russell (Newcastle Planning and Development Department) Jane Pascoe (Newcastle Planning and Development Department) 6 . The Steering Committee takes responsibility for preparing for the CAUSE Study Weekend. Individual members of the Committee will take responsibility for specific concerns such as: 1) the Budget 2) public relations/media 3) citizen participation 4) accommodation for Study Team 5) report printing 6) photography 7) transportation for Study Team 8) equipment/supplies 9) report typing REPORT NO. : PD-53-91 PAGE 3 The full Steering Committee will first convene in late March 1991. Task assignment and budget deliberations will be among the issues discussed at this first meeting. 7 . Staff will continue to provide status reports to Council at appropriate intervals .
