SUBJECT: TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT REGIONAL ROAD 4 (TAUNTON ROAD)
AND OLD SCUGOG ROAD
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:

2. BACKGROUND
2.1 On October 31, 1988, at a regular meeting of the General Purpose and
Administration Committee, the Committee passed the following resolution
#GPA-760-88:
"THAT the Director of Public Works investigate and report
his findings on the need of traffic lights at the
intersection of Taunton Read (Regional Road 4) and
Old Scugog Road."

3. REVIEW AND COMMENT
3.1 In the past, concerned citizens have petitioned for traffic signals to
be installed at the intersection of Regional Road 4 (Taunton Road) and
Old Scugog Road. Problem areas of concern include traffic volume,
traffic speed, accident rate and the configuration of the intersection
(see Attachment No.2) .
3.2 The intersection is located on Regional Road 4 (Taunton Road) and is
therefore under the jurisdiction of the Region of Durham.
3.3 The Region of Durham Works Department reviewed this intersection in
1986 and 1987. On both occasions only 50% of the requirements to
warrant traffic signals had been fulfilled.
3.4 In response to our request, the Region of Durham Works Department will
review this intersection later in 1989. We will report the Region's
findings when they are received.
4. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
4.1 It is, therefore, recommeded that this report be received for information.
