Roenigk Drive forms the 'stem' of the intersection and the stop condition is on Poenigk. Drive (see Attachment No.2) . 3.2 If the stop sign was relocated from Roenigk Drive to the north approach on Waverly lbad, vehicles on the south approach proceeding straight through the intersection would have the right of way as well as westbound vehicles on Roenigk Drive turning left to proceed south on Waverly lbad. This would result in a hazardous traffic condition. 3.3 To prevent this hazardous condition, the south approach to the intersection would require reconstruction to provide a separate channelized right turn lane for the northbound to eastbound movement (see Attachment No.3) . The island is required to provide for an exclusive right turn lane so that a stop condition can be imposed on northbound vehicles on Waverly Road going straight through the intersection. The northbound right turn lane would be operated under 'yield' control. The estimated cost for the reconstruction of the intersection is $19,000. .*.3 r n i U !,J REPORT NO.: WD-52-89 Page 3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.4 A Plan of Subdivision has been submitted for the development of vacant lands between Waverly Road and Martin Road south of the CN Rail right of way. This development will increase traffic volumes at this intersection. 3.5 There are several houses fronting on to Waverly Road and the Waverly Road Public School is located on east side of Waverly Road. The removal of the stop condition of Roenigk Drive will encourage more traffic which is southbound to Highway 401 to use Waverly Road rather than use Highway #2 to Regional Road 57 and Regional Road 57 to Highway 401. 3.6 Crosswalk bars will be painted in the spring to line up with the existing sidewalk and the stop bar is proposed to be painted behind the sidewalk (see Attachment No.3) 4.0 RECOMMENDATIONS 4.1 In view of the above, it is recommended that no change be made to the stop condition at Waverly Road and Roenigk Drive. Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation to the Committee, Walter A. Evans, P. Eng., Lawrence E. otseff, Director of Public Works. Chief Administrative Officer.
