SUB,JECT: STORM DRAINAGE NEEDS IN THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report WD-24-89 be received; and
2. THAT provision be made in the 1989 Budget, for Council's consideration,
for $26,000 to update the storm drainage studies for Courtice,
Bowmanville, Newcastle, Orono and Hampton.
REPORT
1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 At a meeting on April 7, 1986 Council passed Resolution #C-337-86 as folows:
"THAT the Director of Public Works prepare a report to address storm
drainage on roads in the Town of Newcastle;
AND FURTHER TI-iA'T the Director of Public Works prepare a long term plan
to address ways of funding and dealing with this problem."

2.0 REVIEW AND COMMENT
2.1 In past years, the Town has had storm drainage studies prepared by our
consultants, Totten Sims Hubicki Associates Ltd, for the following
communities in the Town:
Courtice -1980
Bowmanville - 1978
Newcastle - 1980
Orono - 1978
Hampton - 1973
2.2 There have been many changes in the Town's storm water systems since
these reports were prepared. in order to prepare a program to correct
storm drainage deficiencies in the Town, it is necessary that these
reports be updated.
2.3 A quotations has been obtained from our consultants, in the amount of
$26,000 to update these storm drainage studies. once the studies have
been updated we will be in a position to present a program to Council,
for their consideration, to correct many of the storm drainage facilities
in the Town.
3.0 RECOMMENDATION
3.1 It is, therefore, recommended that provision be made in the 1989 Budget,
for Council's consideration, for $26,000 to update the storm drainage
studies for Courtice, Bowmanville, Newcastle, Orono and Hampton.
