THAT Report WD-17-89 be received; and 2 . THAT provision be made in the 1989 Capital Budget , for Council ' s consideration , for the reconstruction of Sommerville Drive, Victoria Street and Church Street in Orono; and i 3 . THAT a copy of this report be forwarded to all the residents who attended the Information Centre. REPORT 1 . 0 ATTACHMENTS i No. 1 : Drawing showing the location of the project . No. 2 : Copy of the Register kept at the Information Centre. 2 . 0 BACKGROUND 2 . 1 Provision was made in the 1988 Capital Budget and Four Year Forecast for the design in 1988 and the construction in 1989 of I Sommerville Drive, Victoria Street and Church Street in Orono. i . . . 2 i Page 2 WD-17-89 3 . 0 INFORMATION CENTRE 3 . 1 An Information Centre was held at the Orono Town Hall between the hours of 4: 00 p.m. to 7 : 00 p. m. , on Wednesday, November 16, 1988, to review, with members of the public, the details of the proposed reconstruction of Sommerville Drive, Victoria Street and Church Street . 3 . 2 The proposed reconstruction includes excavation, granular base, hot-mix paving, storm sewers and sidewalks . 3 . 3 About 26 area residents attended the Information Centre. A copy of the Register kept at the Information Centre is attached to this report . 3 . 4 The residents were generally in favour of the proposed works . Several of the residents requested that we show them in the field, the exact location of the edge of pavement , sidewalks , etc. , to help them determine how the reconstruction would affect their properties . This was done during the week following the Information Centre. 3 . 5 The road allowance on Victoria Street is only 40 feet wide. For this reason, the residents asked if the pavement width could be reduced so that the impact on their properties could be reduced. A meeting was held in the field, with the residents of Victoria Street . Various options were marked out and after some discussion it was agreed that the pavement width would be reduced from 26 feet to 22 feet . In order to provide for one lane of parking it was also agreed to make Victoria Street a one-way street in the west-bound direction. 3 Page 3 WD-17-89 4. 0 COSTS 4. 1 The estimated cost for the reconstruction of Sommerville Drive, Victoria Street and Church Street is $863 , 000 . 00 . 5 . 0 RECOMMENDATION 5 . 1 It is recommended that this report be received, that provision be made, for Council ' s consideration, in the 1989 Capital Budget for the reconstruction of Sommerville Drive, Victoria Street and Church Street and that a copy of this report be sent to all the residents who attended the Information Centre.
