SUBJECT: TOWN OF NEWCASTLE STREET NAMING POLICY
STREET NAME CHANGE - YATES
OUR FILE: PLN 25.1
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD- 286 -89 be received for information; and
2. THAT Mr. & Mrs. Yates be advised that an application is
required to commence the street name process.
1. BACKGROUND:
1.1 At the meeting held on October 16, 1989, the Council of the
Town of Newcastle passed the following resolution:
"THAT the correspondence dated September 20, 1989, from
Mrs. Norma Yates, requesting a street name change for
Manvers Street in the Village of Newcastle be received;
THAT the correspondence be referred to the Director of
Planning and Development for review and report; and
THAT Mrs. Yates be advised of Council's decision."
2. STAFF COMMENTS:
2.1 In consideration of the above -noted resolution, Staff, by

correspondence, advised Mr. & Mrs. Yates of the procedural
requirements, endorsed by Council, in considering any street
name changes. This includes an application fee of $100.00.
2.2 Should Mr. & Mrs. Yates wish to proceed, Staff noted an
application would be reviewed based upon Council policy/
procedure.
2.3 Staff would note for Committee's information that upon
contacting the Region of Durham Planning Department, it was
confirmed that the name "Yates" would be placed on the reserve
list for the Town of Newcastle. By correspondence, the Region
was requested to do so.
2.4 Should Mr. & Mrs. Yates wish to formally request, pursuant to
Council policy, a street name change, the necessary reports
and advertisements would proceed.
