Fanning, R. D. M. R. Director, Department of Community Services DATE: April 1E, 1981 SUBJECT: Use of Municipal and School Board Facilities (Indoor - Outdoor) At the present time this department is in charge of permits for the various school ball diamonds and soccer fields. Mr. G. A. Kennett is in charge of the permitting. We are involved in permitting twenty (20) ball diamonds and nine (J) soccer fields. I might add that this is a time consuming job, due to the amount of work involved. During the winter the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education use the Bowmanville Memorial Arena and the Darlington Sports Centre free of charge. The total cost of this project is $2,800.00 between the two facilities. Please find attached a breakdown of the number of hours and cost. -1. J. Hobbs School have their Commencement in the Darlington Sports Centre free of cost each year. All programmes conducted in the various school board facilities are affiliate programmes of the Department of Community Services, that is no fees are charged by the department. Board Facilities (Indoor - Outdoor) Playground Training Course Mondays Bowmanville High School Wednesdays Bowmanville High School (started Ahrch 1981) The School Board does not charge a rental fee for the above programmes, however, the Badminton Club, Girls Gymnastics and Mens Basketball have all made donations of money or equipment to the High School for use of the facility and where feasible, the individual groups will use their own equipment. The Community Services Department also uses the High School facilities at different intervals for sports clinics and our playground training course which is conducted two (2) nights per week for six (G) weeks. I might also add, that these programmes are affiliated with our department, to try and reduce costs of operating. I feel, that if these programmes were charged a rental fee it may altogether jeopardise their existance. For the 1981-82 season, Badminton, Basketball League, Indoor. Soccer, Ladies Volleyball and Durham Police will not be affiliated with our department and the schools will recover some of their cost. The Director and Deputy Director have already discussed the above- mentioned information with Ir1r. Farl Wolff, Principal, Boi nanville High School.
