SMECT: REQUEST FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNALS AT THE INTERSECTION OF
COURTICE ROAD AND BASELINE ROAD, BOWMANVILLE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report WD-38-90 be received for information; and
2 . THAT a copy of Report WD-38-90 be forwarded to Mr. Philip Strathy.

2.0 BACKGROUND
2 . 1 At a regular meeting held on September 25, 1989, Council passed
Resolution #C-675-89 :
"THAT the correspondence dated September 19, 1989,
from Philip Strathy, President, Art's Woodwork Ltd. ,
with respect to the installation of traffic lights
at the intersection of Courtice Road and Baseline
Road be received;

THAT the correspondence be referred to the Director
of Public Works for investigation and a subsequent
report to the General Purpose and Administration
Committee; and
THAT Mr. Philip Strathy be advised of Council's
decision. "
3.0 REVIEW AND COMMENT
3 . 1 This is a Regional intersection and Mr. Strathy's concern was
forwarded to Mr. W.A. Twelvetrees, Commissioner of Works, Region
of Durham for review and response. Mr. W.A. Twelvetrees, advised
that the Region will include this site in the 1990 Spring Count
Program.
4.0 RECOMMENDATION
5 . 1 That Report WD-38-90 be received for information.
5.2 That Mr. Philip Strathy be forwarded a copy of this report.

Dear Mr. Wotten ,
Re : Traffic lights at the intersection of Courtice Road and Baseline Road
in Bowmanville , Ontario
As we discussed yesterday , I think a traffic signal is needed at
the intersection of Courtice Road and Baseline Road.
North-South traffic volume has increased over the past f.ew months
making it difficult to access Courtice Road and the 401 from Baseline
Road. With 1400 homes and more commercial buildings at various stages
of planning and development the traffic flow can only get worse.
I would appreciate it if at your next council meeting you would
discuss the necessity of a traffic flow study in this area. Thank you .
