THAT Report WD-34-90 be received for information. REPORT 1.0 ATTACHMENT No. 1: Key Map 2 . 0 BACKGROUND 2 . 1 At a meeting of Council held on September 11, 1989 , the following resolution was passed: I "THAT the Director of Public Works and appropriate staff be directed to investigate all possible avenues to improve safety of pedestrians on Townline Road north where a small child was recently fatally injured by a vehicle. " i . . .2 OS _ I i i REPORT NO. : WD-34-90 PAGE 2 i 3 .0 REVIEW AND COMMENT 3 . 1 Reconstruction of Regional Road 55 Townline Road from Olive Avenue/Kingswood Drive to Taunton Road is a Regional Road (Regional nal Road 55) . The Region's 1990 Capital Budget and Four Year Forecast provides for the reconstruction of Townline Road as follows: 1. From Olive Avenue/Kingswood Drive northerly to Highway No. 2 (King Street) in 1990 . 2 . From Highway No. 2 (King Street) to Adelaide Avenue in 1991. 3. From Adelaide Avenue to Taunton Road in 1992 . 3 .2 Improvements for Safety to Pedestrians 3.2 . 1 Safety for pedestrians on a roadway can be improved by the provision of sidewalks and street lighting. At the present time there are thirty-two street lights on Townline Road, at about seventy (70) metres (230 feet) intervals from Olive Avenue to Adelaide Avenue. Also, there are sidewalks on the west side of Townline Road from Highway No. 2 northerly to Kilmaurs Avenue (see Attachment No. l) . 3 .2 . 3 Provision has been made in the Town's 1990 Capital Budget for $80,000 to provide for the construction of sidewalks on the east side of Townline Road from Olive Avenue to Highway No. 2 . The construction of the sidewalks will be included in the Region's contract for the reconstruction of Townline Road. . . .3 13 i i REPORT NO. : WD-34-90 PAGE 3 3 .2 .4 The City of Oshawa has made similar arrangements for the construction of sidewalks on the west side of Townline Road from Adelaide Avenue to Highway No. 2 . 3.2 .5 Provision has also been made in the Town's 1991 Forecast for the construction of sidewalks on the east side of Townline Road from Highway No. 2 to Adelaide Avenue. The Region has been asked to include the construction of these sidewalks in their 1991 contract. 4 . 0 RECOMMENDATIONS 4. 1 It is recommended that this report be received for information.
