SUB,JECT: SIDEWALKS IN THE VILLAGE OF NEWCASTLE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report WD-28-90 be received for information; and
2 . THAT a copy of Report WD-28-90 be forwarded to Mr. Robert Griffin.

1.0 ATTACHMENT
No. 1: Correspondence from Mr. Robert Griffin, Chairperson

2.0 BACKGROUND
2 . 1 At a meeting of Council held on February 26, 1990, the following
resolution was passed:
"THAT the correspondence dated February 15, 1990,
from Robert Griffin, Chairperson of Newcastle
B. I.A. , requesting sidewalk construction on King
Street in the Village of Newcastle be received;

"THAT the correspondence be referred to the Director
of Public Works for review and subsequent report to
be considered by the General Purpose and
Administration Committee; and
THAT Robert Griffin be advised of Council's
decision. "
2 .2 Mr. Robert Griffin, Chairperson of the Newcastle B. I.A. , has
requested that sidewalks be constructed on King Street (Highway #2)
in conjunction with the Ministry's reconstruction of Highway #2 .
The proposed sidewalks are located on the south side of King Street
from the walkway at the Foster Creek Development easterly to
Baldwin Street and on the north side from the existing sidewalk
ending at the St. Francis of Assisi School easterly to Arthur
Street (refer to Attachment No.2) .
2 .3 The Ministry of Transportation has tentatively scheduled the
reconstruction of Highway #2 from Cemetery Road (Bowmanville)
easterly to Graham Creek (Newcastle Village) for 1992 .
2 .4 The estimated costs of these sidewalks is $200,000 and
provisions has been made in the 1990 Budget and Four Year
Forecast for the construction of these sidewalk works to
coincide with the Ministry of Transportation's schedule for
the reconstruction of Highway #2 .
3.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
3. 1 It is, therefore, recommended that this report be received for
information and that Mr. Robert Griffin receive a copy of this
report.
