Call to Order Brian called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. 2. Land Acknowledgement Statement Brian led the meeting with the Land Acknowledgement Statement. 3. Additions to the Agenda/Adoption of the Agenda Moved by Meg Vandenbrink, seconded by Michael Henderson That the Agenda be accepted, with the following additions: Brian will summarize the grade 9 class presentation at SWNA and provide an update on the pending planting project with the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Carried 4. Declaration of Pecuniary Interest There were no disclosures of interest stated at this meeting. 5. Adoption of Minutes Moved by Meg Vandenbrink, seconded by Michael Henderson That the minutes of the meeting of May 19, 2026, be approved. SWNAMAC - 2 - June 16, 2026 Data sensitivity - Public Carried 6. Committee Administration 7. SWNA Workplan Q1 2026 Q2 2026 Q3 2026 a. Moth Week (June 20’26 @ 10pm Toronto Street Parking Lot) – Tom - Tom will be hosting 1 night this time around, poster was sent through Facebook b. Tree Identification Walk (June 20’26) – Mike - Leah noted that there are currently 11 people registered - Ken confirmed that Jeff will be on site - Committee to be at Toronto Street parking lot for 9:30am, the walk will start at 10am c. Monarch Tagging (September 12’26, backup date Sept 19’26) – Tom - no update at this time Q4 2026 a. Fall Cleanup (November) – All – no update at this time b. Bird Count (Jan 3’27) – Brian – no update at this time 8. External Projects a. Missing Garbage Receptacle – Ken - Ken has noted this is on his list SWNAMAC - 3 - June 16, 2026 Data sensitivity - Public 9. Other Business a. Leo Blindenbach SWNA Memorial – Ken/Brian/Meg - Meg will follow up with Leo’s daughter b. Presentations (committee to brainstorm on sponsor options) – All - No update at this time c. Fall Hike/Salmon Life Cycle/Monarch Tagging Event (Sept 12’16 tentative) – Meg/Leah - Leah and Meg will connect on Ben’s availability d. SWNA Committee communication strategy plan – Leah - Leah is working on this. e. Ontario Arborist Association Day of Service – Ken/Mike - Ken will advise if this is something that we can take on as there may be some legal implications due to the union within the municipality. f. Grade 9 class presentation - Brian attended the eco system presentation that was done by a Grade 9 class from Durham Christian Secondary School in Bowmanville. The students conducted an analysis of the overall ecosystem at the SWNA. They used a variety of apps to identify species. g. Canadian Wildlife Federation - Brian confirmed that everything is confirmed with the Canadian Wildlife Federation to expand the where the perennial planting has been the last 2 years. Paperwork is being finalized with them. Ken has lined up a contractor to do the tilling and seeding. 10. Round Table – All Tom – there are more bike jumps that have been created and will show the committee on the walk; Ken will take pictures. 11. Date Of Next Meeting The next meeting of the Committee will be held on July 21, 2026, commencing at 7:00 p.m. at Room1 c Municipal Administrative Center or Microsoft Teams. It is possible that this meeting will not be necessary in which case Brian will advise members by email. 8. Adjournment Moved by Leanne Fernandes The meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m. Carried
