Land Acknowledgement The Municipality of Clarington is situated within the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas and Chippewas of the Anishinabeg, known today as the Williams Treaties First Nations. Reserve Fund Request – Update ($7,500.00) A formal request and resolution have been submitted to the Municipality of Clarington Finance Department to withdraw $7,500.00 from the DBIA Reserve Fund for the previously approved items, including: • Repair of existing Christmas light infrastructure • DBIA contribution toward the Community CCTV Camera Project • Purchase of new Christmas tree lights UPDATE: The municipality has approved to release the funds during the June 22nd council meeting. Next Steps: - send out an RFQ to repair the lights, setup and installation - review and price Christmas tree lights 8. Orono Town Hall Collaboration A joint board meeting will be held on May 11, 2026 with the Orono Town Hall to discuss next steps for collaboration, including future marketing initiatives and partnership opportunities. Update: The Orono Townhall Board and DBIA met to discuss opportunities for collaboration and have agreed to explore several initiatives in greater depth to determine alignment and fit between both groups. The shared objective is to identify event-based partnerships and funding approaches that support Townhall sustainability while enhancing community engagement. • Collaboration Focus o Both groups are interested in forming a stronger working partnership centered on community events and shared outcomes. o Further evaluation will be done to confirm roles, responsibilities, and overall fit. • Event-Based Fundraising Opportunities o Agreed to explore jointly hosting events that can generate revenue in support of Townhall operations. o Focus on improving coordination, increasing attendance, and maximizing fundraising potential. • Events Under Consideration o Santa Claus Parade o Pancake Breakfast o Tree Lighting at the Townhall o Canada Day Celebrations ▪ Including the possibility of closing Main Street to create a larger, more engaging event space. • Sponsorship Program Exploration o Discussed developing a structured sponsorship program to help fund events. o Opportunities to include: ▪ Tiered sponsorship levels for local businesses ▪ Event-specific sponsorship packages ▪ Promotional and branding benefits for participating sponsors o Goal is to increase financial support while strengthening local business involvement. • Next Steps o Continue discussions to refine event plans and collaboration structure. o Assess feasibility and alignment on each initiative before formalizing partnerships. 9. ROD Funding Program – Update The Orono DBIA is planning a project kick-off meeting in May 2026 for the ROD funding. The ROD funding will be used to create an Economic Development strategy and marketing strategy. Update – Laura Knox to provide 10. Orono Sign Project – Update No update at this time. 11.
