REPORT 1.0 ATTACHMENTS No. l: Key Map and Detailed map No.2 : Letter dated January 3, 1990, from GO Transit No. 3: By-law to amend By-law 79-1 . . .2 1001 REPORT NO. : WD-20-90 PAGE 2 2 .0 BACKGROUND 2 . 1 Report WD-83-89 which was approved by Council on November 20, 1989, I recommended, in part, that the Go Bus Stop for west-bound traffic on King Street be relocated from the north side of King Street just west of Division Street to just west of George Street. Also, it was recommended that the Go Bus Stop for east-bound traffic which is located on the south side of King Street just west of Division Street be relocated to the south side of King Street, just each of Division Street. Director of Public Works Town of Newcastle 40 Temperance Street Bowmanville, Ontario L1C 3A6 Dear Mr. Evans: Subject: Relocation of GO Transit Bus Stomas Our letter of 22 December 1989, indicated our agreement with your proposed relocation of two existing GO Transit bus stops on King Street in downtown Bowmanville, specifically: 1. Relocation of the existing eastbound stop from the west side of Division Street to the east side of Division Street. 2. Relocation of the existing westbound stop from the west side of Division Street to the west side of George _Street. In conjunction with relocation No. 2 above, and as recently discussed with Your Hr. Baker, it is our feeling that the existing westbound stop at Ontario Street_ should also be removed and effectively consolidated with the relocated westbound stop at George Street . That further change would serve to: (a) Avoid the situation where two westbound bus stops would be located within one short block of each other; (b) Result in westbound bus stops being spaced every three short blocks (approximately every 300 metres) , in order to be consistent with the semi-express aature of our inter-regional service and our bus stop spacing in other similar municipalities; and (c) Alleviate potential conflicts with automobile activity relative to the commercial area adjacent to the existing Ontario Street stop. ATTACHI i'10,2 1004 i Page 2 Assuming that the above meets with your approval , I trust that you will have Mr. Baker contact me further. At that point, we will arrange to inform our passengers of the upcoming change and have a representative of our Plant Management Branch liaise with your staff regarding the physical relocation or removal of the affected signage.
