REPORT
1.0 The Bowmanville B.I.A. approached Council to approve the removal
of the bus shelter at King and Division Street.
1.1 Resolution #C-376-88 and #C-481-88 (Attachment No.l) referred
the matter to Public Works for review and report.
2.0 Resolution #C-376-88 directed that alternate locations for the
bus stop at the intersection of King and Division be investigated.
2.1 Staff reviewed the matter and agreed, upon receipt of a letter from
the Bowmanville Business Centre, to remove the shelter and put it
into storage at the Bowmanville Yard.
3.0 The bus shelter on King Street, opposite Roenigk Drive was
vandalized beyond repair and Town forces removed it entirely.
3.1 The cost of purchasing a replacement shelter, half the size, is
approximately $2500 and there is no money budgeted in 1988.
3.2 The bus shelter at King and Division could be moved to the location
at King and Roenigk since there is no alternate source of shelter.
4.0 Correspondence dated June 15, 1988 from the B.T.A. suggested the
bus shelter, at King and Division Streets, be relocated to the
area in front of the Veltri Building (see Attachment N0.2) and Resolution
#C-481-88, referred the matter to Public Works, for further consideration.
4.1 Staff reviewed the site in front of the Veltri Building and it is
not considered a desirable location:
a) The sidewalk is only sufficiently wide to accommodate pedestrian
traffic, and
b) By-law 79-122, being a by-law to provide for the regulation of
Parking, Standing and Stopping on highways under the jurisdiction
of The Corporation of the Town of Newcastle, designates the north
side of King Street, between George Street and Division Street, as a
metered parking area.
