2.0 COMMENT
2.1 In her letter, Mrs. Crago raises two concerns:
1. Trees in the village streets are being cut down, but are they
being replaced.
2. Topsoil from the the village is being taken elsewhere, when it
could be used to advantage here in the village.
2.2 The Town of Newcastle has a
policy for the planting of trees on
Town of Newcastle roads and on private property (Attachment No.2) .
Provision has been made in the 1988 Budget for $5,000 to plant trees
in accordance with the Town's policy. Advertisements have been placed
in the local papers advising the residents of the Town's policy with
regard to the planting of trees on private property (Attachment No.3) .
2.3 With regard to the concern about topsoil being taken elsewhere, we
will take this concern into account when topsoil is available from
construction projects.
